There, there froggy. It'll all be OK...

Since you were setting up a new system, hopefully there wasn't any data on the drive. :)

Heather

bad news mate, was it lying on anything or in the hd rack

any warranty left on it

Oh dear!
poor froggy :(

sad stuff... hope u didn't lose any data cf!

I don't have a spare shoulder but i do have a spare 1/2 TB SATA drive you can have if you want it?

John

Cosmic,

Some of these drives it's possible to get replacement PCB's for and work with a quick retrofit, no reprogramming necessary. I've seen some on Ebay I believe, so might be worth a look.

I had 2 x 10K rpm Raptor drives on my PC which both failed (PCB's not available for them) and warranty's run out. :(

Blimey, if that happened to me I think I would cry
Sorry for your loss my dear old froggy, no amount of ribbits will bring that circuit board back to life I'm afraid :(

probably lost my entire games archive

not sure if any warrntry on drive but spose it be a good idea to check

thanks john will probably take you up on that offer

n thanks everyone else, I do know all about backing up but can`t afford the extra storage to do it

am hoping the problem is in the power adapter I was using even so if it is this is first time had a problem with one, this only second HDD I have ever had fail on me in this way but the uncertainty of the actual cause is more of a worrie at the moment

roll on time the big healer, mutted ribbits for now

May your loss be rememberd by all and comiserations given by those who know how to give them.

farewell 1tb drive, your owner will sorley miss you.

I agree with Ed.D. I have brought many drives back to life by simply replacing the same PCB as the failed unit. Drives that have platter issues (knocking noises and such) are not eligible for this kind of repair, but drive failures due solely to PCB issues (another such failure is a drive that does not spin up) may very well have all the data in tact and simply need to have the PCB replaced with the exact same drive model's PCB.

Indeed its just finding the right circuit board

humm date on drive is Dec 2008 so unless theres a 4 year warrentry I`m out of luck on that part

A lot of drives carry 5 year warranties so definitely worth double checking it.

I noticed its a Hitachi drive... I've avoided them for years, ever since they used to be IBM and were known as "Death"stars.

Indeed, Hitachi Deathstars should be avoided at all costs!

Farewell 1TB drive. may you rest well in silicon heaven.

No such place? But where do all the calculators go?

Sorry about the drive froggy, but yours is the first drive I have ever seen
fry like that wow break out the hotdogs...
