Declaring interest in one. Is it possible to connect C128 directly to VGA monitor for eg. Samsung MP710 or similar via this nice adapter?

I did think about kits, however the costliest part is the chip so I am not sure I could reduce the total cost by much. I have also had problems in the past with people incorrectly assembling kits that I sold so in general I am opposed to the idea.

You can plug a VGA monitor directly in. However that monitor must support 15khz. There are many multisync monitors and that is what it is designed for. It does NOT do scandoubling at all and will not work on the majority of normal VGA only monitors.
I have a BenQ that works with 15khz and plugs straight in.
Unless your monitor can accept 15khz in on the VGA plug you will need something like the gonbes in the middle.

You also need to make sure that pin 9 is not shorted to ground (as some cheap cables do) because 5v is placed on that pin in the VGA port. This was part of the later VGA "standard", pin 9 was originally a 'key' pin and then changed to 5v. best to check that pin 9 is not shorted to ground before plugging things in.

Put in another way if you decide to sell one as a kit to a slightly reduced price I would be interested. :D
You do not need to worry about incorrect assembly in my case (as long as you provide the needed documentation of where each part needs to be placed). :)

I'd love something like this to also use on a CGA PC machine but it's an Amstrad 1512 that has combined H+V on one pin. Would I need to re-separate this before using your adapter? :)

Urm... No need to split it I think.
Not sure what you would do with it though. it might work just feeding that combined sync to 1 of the inputs on my board or it might need inverting first (don't know what sort of sync that machine has). Or you could just add a resistor to that pin and not put the sync through my chip at all.
I think the first thing to do would be to try just feeding that to one pin, I would be interested in hearing how it all goes! I am quite surprised by the number of people here wanting this for a PC instead of a 128.

PC's rarely get the respect it deserves from most of the retrogaming community. Even though early PC's were not as good for gaming as other home computers, many of us feel nostalgic about these machines and enjoy playing even the older "not so advanced" games. Even in the IBM PC retro community most people just care about VGA games, with the exception of some of the great EGA games. But rarely anyone cares about CGA.

Hello Pyrofer,

as I've already written to you on Commodore 128 forum I'm interested in one.

Declaring interest in one. PM me when you have one available. Shipping will be to Canada.

Thanks,

Just another update to say I am STILL waiting for the PCBs to arrive, apologies for the length of time this is taking. Slow boat from China for most of the parts.
