Thanks to eagle eyed friend for spotting a new to me old Commodore 64 at the boot sale 3 weekends ago
Managed to get it for ** with PSU and box
On getting it home and testing it, it had a faulty CPU and a U17 PLA chip..
So parts have been ordered for a little upgrade as I'll be using this one as my retro commodore games PC
Used condition with marks all over
lots of black scrap marks on this one
The dust magnet
More of those black marks
The only yellowing I can really find on this
Marked up bum
Into the motherboard and that heat shield needs to come off
Nice and dusty over the years
To be fare I have seen worse motherboards, time to stand-up all the components!
Close up of dust and skin
All components are all upright now too
Time to clean!
Hot water and a brush works well
Clean!
Ill let the pics do there work here
All clean but over time the metal covers on the RF and the cart slot always seem to turn this way
Time to remove them and crack out the sand paper and hairdryer to remove the labels
What a difference that made
Shiny
Ready for repair
Keyboard time!.... its a little dusty
well is it dust or skin!
clumps of it too... nice
bang and the dirt is gone!
Much cleaner
Done
And finally the case
Very little yellowing at all on this
Clean bum!
Reassembly time
It cleaned up amazingly well!
Next up is to get it up and running!
Things to do
Install replacement CPU and U17 "PLAnkton"
Install dual kernel with JiffyDOS
Setup SD2IEC when it gets here
More pic's to come when chips arrive
