Any help on which sd reader to buy for my c64, there are so many to choose from!
I want it to be external, and basically do the job of what my 1541 does.
If possible i would also like it to work for my vic20 as well, "If Possible"

Thanks for any advice given on this subject.

I've been using the SD Infinity for two years now without issues. The new model Princess also support the .tap files. It's compatible with all 8-bit commodore machines, including Vic 20, c16, plus/4 and the 128. You can find it here: www.manosoft.it

Also the UK1541 is very good http://wiki.projekt64.filety.pl/

Hi Replayuk,

I have just purchased one of these exact models. They are fantastic little devices and are ideal for the intro into SD card gaming at a reasonable price. (sold over 600 so can't be too shabby.....)
If you are looking for more bells & whistles, and hardware emulation of the 1541 drive for better compatibility with certain files, or additional features ,then the options listed above are great.
There is also a chameleon cartridge and a 1541 Ultimate II to add to the mix, both the top end kit with prices to match.
I am happy with this for now, but will be investing in one of the big boys in the future
Best Regards

I`ve been looking around ebay & found this
Plus it just looks like my 1541 drive but smaller, any idea`s if this would work.

Cheers Draven that answer will do me, i`m only after something cheap and cheerful to connect to the old boy, so for now that will do just fine.

Great news.

I love my vC64SD v2 Infinity by manosoft! It has a great menu system and loads up everything I try with no problems.

i use one called the SD1564, it looks like a 1541 except its bigger than the ones posted here and it requires an external 12v supply. i purchased it from europe, i am in US and it wasnt cheap, this was like three years ago, but it works a treat. it didnt have an external drive id select so i installed one, but i am sure the other ones posted here work just fine, they are all based on the same specs.

I also have the sdrive1564. It has a 5V external power supply, is switchable, uses a 1541 cable and has a cool LCD display on it. For me the best of the SD2IEC units based on screen, PSU and connecting cable.

The 1541 Ultimate-II is everything I ever wanted on a C64, I'm really happy with it.
I don't think there's one out there that has more features, or is easier to use.

I would like to once again thank the members of amibay for directing me to this sd card reader, it's cheap & cheerful & does the job brilliant.
