http://youtu.be/hyWfRkxPbgQ

arrived today from distant shores...

Ive had to quickly make an iec cable and solder it up to use the ultimate as a disk drive...but its great :-)

What is it?
The '1541 Ultimate' is a storage solution for your Commodore home computer, such as the C64, C128, C plus4, C16, etc. This piece of hardware implements a 'real' 1541 diskdrive for Commodore computers. There are two versions of this board; the 1541 Ultimate-I and the 1541 Ultimate-II. The 1541 Ultimate-I uses an SD-card or MMC-card to store the floppy disks, while the 1541 Ultimate-II uses MicroSD and USB pen-drives. Both the 1541 Ultimate-I and the 1541 Ultimate-II contain a replica of all the necessary hardware to be fully compatible with a real drive.

The '1541 Ultimate-I' can be used as a cartridge in the C64/C128, or as a stand-alone unit for use with other Commodore models with a serial bus. In cartridge mode, the user can view the SD-card content with just a simple push on one of the buttons, and 'mount' .d64 images into the floppy drive. In stand-alone mode, the user can use the buttons to navigate through the directories, or send IEC commands to a secondary device on the bus. This secondary device also allows saving and loading files to the FAT file system directly, but is not as compatible as the 1541 drive.

Wonderful! I've got an Ultimate I on the way. I've already got one, but the new one I'm getting has Ethernet installed. I haven't tried EasyFlash emulation yet because I have multiple EasyFlash carts. It will be great once they get write support for EasyFlash emulation on the 1541 Ultimate!

Just updated the firmware to run .crt images and it now has a Sid player too.

I'm expecting an Ultimate-II to arrive any day. To help me set it up are there any good C64 Repos about ?

Sorry, but we cannot link to those sites here. :( There are plenty out there though. A quick Google search for GameBase 64 would probably find something for you. There's also a GB64 organizer that will work with the GameBase 64 files and extract them to directories and file names that are 1541 Ultimate friendly.

Thanks, it was this info I was after rather than the links

All this talk of the Ultimate is making me want to sign up and pre-order the U2 :ninja:

Paradroid90 brought his U2 round mine yesterday and we had a quick play on the C64 here and indeed it's an awesome but of kit.

Not being too knowledgeable on C64's I'm not sure I'd use all the features but it really looks leagues ahead of the other solutions.

I'm just trying soooo hard not to buy anymore toys!

LOL! Just give in. You'll be much happier. :)

The 1541 Ultimate (either version) is THE premiere device for any Commodore 64/128 user. It simply doesn't get any better.

Hi Roy

You do not need Jiffy Dos because the Ultimate comes with Retro Replay and Action Replay available on boot ( I use Retro Replay )

Use the fast load commands and away you go.

Also the 1541 Ultimate is nearly 100% compatible with all .d64's I have found.

But because it has the 1541 Rom built in to the device it behaves exactly how a 1541 Disk Drive would behave.

Hi Fitzy

Sorry bringing over the Ultimate is giving you a dilemma :D

Like you said buddy it depends what you want from your c64 usage :coffee:

But I have never regretted buying mine as you know

Via a tape adaptor which you have to pay extra but it is just like loading from C2N

Sanixon or Snare Loading via the Ultimate II - Just like the real thing :D

You can also create .tap files
