Excellent and very interesting find. Same it wasnt released by cbm but that's life.

Nice looking machines , ive never seen these vids before :-)

Awesome and sad at the same time. I am nearly done reading the latest Commodore book and it's such a pity Commodore was managed like it was. They could have still been in business and been on the top of the market:(

Yes Commodore died because of very poor management not poor computers but the decision to abandon the American market was a very poor one, even though Europe made commodore it's money...

very cool, it's kinda like the C128 in that it can do 64 mode. Pretty nice machine, I think it would of been a hit. But I think the Amiga was where C= wanted to focus by that time so they scrapped it. It was a little too late for this by then. Maybe in 1987 1988, but surely not in 1990+

Like most thinks later in commodores life.. Just too late.

Let's face it , if it had been released it would of taken sales away from the Amiga , the Amiga needed every sale it could get later on..

Its a great machine but too late.

true,it was too much too late.the same thing happened with some of the amiga range.

I agree. Hiring Thomas Rattigan was Irving Gould's best decision and replacing him with Mehdi Ali was his worst.

:wooha: You speaketh of the devils name!

Meddling Ali's name will forever be known as the downfall of Commodore!

Ok, from now on I shall refer him as Woldemort. :p

has anyone used 1 or seen 1 in the flesh

i have seen one in the flesh, and it was a very long time ago.

i agued pointblank that it dident exist, and i was shown one by a freind that had it!(i was very shocked to see how fast one of these where compared to the C64)

and years from then, no-one i told about it would beleive me.

nice one roy

the thing is this machine was actually in production !!,its just not many peaple knew about it.

what peaple dident realise was this machine had 128k of ram in 65 mode and was about 5-6 times faster with stereo sound (2 sid chips)and a 3.5 inch drive(that could hold about 4times as much data on one side! uncompressed!)from what i can remember.and an improved basic 10,and could display 256 colours on screen in 80 column mode.

the memory part really interested me as that was the failing part of the 64 as soon as you switch on there was only 38k left for use,(using the 65 in 64 mode halfed the memory and only used one sid chip for compatibility)

and the machine was still faster than the C=128! ,by a long way.(basicly a 128 was 64 with 128k of ram)
id love to know where the advertising was for this machine.
but then again it probably wasent a good idea to have a machine that was as fast as the A500 but only half the price(sure, it didnt mutitask)

is all i remember is it was around at about the same time as the C=64C.(all the other machines where based on the C=16 and C=64 at the same clock speed they always where)

its a shame really,if you ever seen one of these machine's in 65 mode running a 3D game it was a real pleasure(i sat with my freind and had a go of sentinal and castle master)awsome.play castle master on a C=64 youll see what i mean.

I don't believe you!

The C65 wasnt really in production.
A small number of units were made for developers & dealer demos, they were all pre-production units.

Also, notice the C65 boot screen says "Commodore C65 Development System".

Looks like an awesome system to own. Sadly it was not to be.
