Sometimes a thread derailing into a discussion isnt always a bad thing. People can learn from the discussion even if its not always directly related. It happens a bit too often agreed but it isn't always intentionally disruptive and parties involved don't normally deserve infraction points for doing it. Sometimes it can be simply someone posting for help and others sharing their experience with a similar issue and then a small discussion ensues about other peoples experiences because on sites like this, many are keen to share their interests and opinions with others if they can relate. But I agree when arguments break out and people begin trolling on other peoples threads it can be an issue.

A simple... 'this thread is off topic, lets get it back on track' really ought to be enough for our more responsible members to get the message and only those intentionally being malicious ought to get warnings of any official sort. Or perhaps if the thread creator complains.

Amibay is and needs to remain as friendly a place as possible. We're not nazi law enforcers after all  There's a fine line between enforcing rules and being unfair to peoples expression of opinion. IMO the mods are doing a brilliant job as things are.

I figured the moderators were right, the X1000 thread was off topic. I just started another which was more about the pluses and minuses of the X1000 and the future of our beloved Amigas. I figured that was a win/win. The original thread stayed on target and we could also discuss the X1000 issues to our hearts desire. The moderators have treated me very well here. No issues. So come on over to the new thread to talk about the X1000. I think we can have a conversation about the new Amiga and still be civil. Thanks!
