Can anyone tell me why I cant get Cannon Fodder to work via kippers CF board? (on an A500) Ive got 1mb chip mem but apparently it needs 1.1mb, maybe a setting somewhere that ive missed?

Hey Macc, nothing you can do here but buy more chip mem. This WHDLoad slave needs 1.1 chip RAM. Unfortunately, there are quite a lot good slaves that need 1+ MB chip RAM. :(

Thanks for the reply b00mer, where would I get that from? Currently ive got kippers 8mb cf solution, plus 512kb. Would boosting this over 1mb also improve loading speeds? (specifically how long it takes to display files in folders because if theres a lot, it can take an AGE!)

2 MB chip RAM for Amiga 500 is quite rare and depending of the mobo revision you will have to use some hacks. Some Agnuses just don't know how to address that much RAM. I don't want to dish A500 but you are probably better off with A1200 that has 2 MB already on board or A500+ / A600 with 1 MB chip RAM upgrade.

Chip RAM upgrade won't improve loading speed. Only fast RAM and better CPU will do that. Displaying WHDLoad content can take ages, particularly if you are using WB (GUI) and poor old 68000. If you don't want to invest in HW (in my unscientific experience, ACA-500 more than halves the time required to display files, A1200 with fast RAM upgrade is approx. 3 times faster), I recommend using CLI or one of many WHDLoad centered launchers. I plan to make one simple launcher in the near future, because I don't like any of them. Maybe I can use you as my beta tester. :)

@Macc

You could try AGLaunch0.7c to load CannonFodder, you might get lucky as this doesn't use that much RAM (or CHIP RAM) to present the game-list.

Alternatively I would suggest an A500+ or atleast the A500+ motherboard as this can utilize up to 2MB CHIP via a simple adaptor.

Don't run it via Workbench then, run it through CLI.

Thanks for the tips guys but i think ill just run it off disk for now (that works no probs), probably going to sell this on at some point in the near future so hw expansion isnt on my wishlist. Cheers anyways!
