CDTV IR front panel sensor

Having connectivity issues with my CDTV IR and remote. Has anyone had experience replacing the IR sensor in the CDTV front panel, I have established my remotes are fine on another CDTV, but having issues with range and receiving signals intermittently on my CDTV. I was planning on replacing the caps on the front panel PCB, but I noticed another cap inside the shielding around the IR sensor module itself, it looks like a real pain to open up the sensor module to replace the cap, so as an option I am considering replacing with a modern component, if possible. However I am not sure where to start. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Looks like the closest replacement is probably SMD type Sharp IR: GP1US30XP
