Hi,

Can anyone help me figure out how to format a CF card so it works in my A1200 PCMCIA?

I thought it was simply a case of formatting it as FAT on a PC but that doesn't work.

I've installed the software from the floppy and if I boot with the CF card inserted I don't get past the 'busy' mouse pointer.

If I pull the CF card out then Workbench continues to load.

Mine are Fat32, however it should be noted that not all CF cards work in the pcmcia port. It's completely hit and miss and if it doesn't work then there is nothing you can do about it and you should try another. You can get cards that will work on the IDE port but not the pcmica slot and the other way around too.

Do you know how we know which cards will work?
I don't think there is any clear way to know until you plug it in and find out. I have a small 64mb Sandisk CF that does work and I have a 16Gb Kingston micro SD card that works with an SD to CF adapter. But I also have plenty of other cards from various makers that do not work.

It's impossible to know what chip is inside the CF as manufacturers have used various. As a rule of thumb I've always had better success with a smaller cards.
