I picked up a 4GB CF card/hard drive on Amigakit and I've installed it in my A1200. When I run the HD tools and try to partition the CF card I see two SCSI devices listed (ID 0 and 1). I've removed the expansion card and I get the same problem.

I've tried partitioning device 0 and 1, and both allow me to create two roughly 2GB partitions. When I click 'save changes to disk' I get an error (which I didn't write down) but basically 'unable to save changes to disk'

I've followed the tutorial in the sticky by fitzsteve, but seeing the two devices seems to be the problem. I've formatted the card under windows and replaced it the A1200, but I get the same problem.

Any ideas what's going on...?
Thanks,
J

Thanks for that. I'm with you up to page 52. When I've clicked 'Read Configuration' and the 'Continue' on the warning I get 'Unit is not a disk (type 32)!' with the option to continue, and no information is read.

I was pretty slow an deliberate with all the steps up to this point. Any ideas what's wrong?
Thanks,
J

Did you already raised a support ticket for Amigakit? Worst case scenario they will replace the card for you.

Pending your response from Amigakit I can upload an image file you could write to the CF this would normally fix any disk issues unless the CF it's self is faulty.

I'd need to know the size of you CF reported by Windows. I.e 3,700,500

Amigakit are very helpful so you should have contacted them right away.

Hello,

There is no need to prep and format the hard disk- we supply it already prepped with SFS and formatted ready-to-go. This CF card is *fully* compatible with the A1200- we tested it before we sent it out to you on our A1200.

When you plug in the hard disk to start, you should be presented with the AmigaKit logo and then the OS-Install program will load and guide you through the install process. Please read our instruction sheet supplied with the drive.

If you have modified the drive with HDToolbox, then you may have corrupted the drives data.

@rkauer
We do not sell incompatible CF cards to our customers.

I'm currently dealing with this through the AmigaKit support system, I'll post an update when resolved.
Thanks

Thanks for the offer, I tried to format the card in windows to get the capacity but I get an error in Windows 'Windows was unable to complete the format'...

You don't need to format the card to get the capacity, just right click on the drive and choose 'properties' you will then see the capacity in bytes

It sounds however like either the CF or reader are faulty or maybe the IDE adapter was/is faulty and damaged the CF?

Hi, I've been on holiday so only got chance to start up on this today. I think I've got the initial problem solved, I've been through the video tutorial and have got classic WB and WHDload on the CF card. I'm able to boot WinUAE with the CF and can launch games. I'm awaiting my WHDload key and I don't have the kickstart.lha file.

But... whenever I put the CF in the A1200 it will not boot. The hd lights flash for 10 seconds or so, but then go out, and all I get is a black screen. I had a disk drive in here before the CF card and that booted fine. I'm sure it's something simple, any ideas?
Thanks,
J

Amigakit told me to redo diskpart. Did that, managed to get the CF up and running.

Steve's tutorial: Did that got the CF running and booting in WinUAE.

As per my question: it's not running in the A1200.

Hmm I have no clue what it might be I have followed Steve's way for a 600 and 1200 both work great are you sure you have max transfer right?

If you want send me the Card i'll see if I can sort it out for ya..

Yeah, I don't get it, as I say it works and boots in WinUAE. And another harddrive will boot in the A1200. I set the max transfer on all three partitions per the tutorial.

I may take you up on that offer :D

I guess your CF-IDE adapter is faulty or you have an issue with your A1200

That's the the next thing I will try j.l.a sent it to me and the CF booted
right up i'll try the adapter when I get back going to AC for a few days..

:coffee:

Well I could not sleep till I tested it and it booted up fine
on my 1d4 will test on a 2B when I get back..

Also j.l.a can you take a Picture of your IDE port or just check and
see if any pins are bent..

No, all the pins are fine. I hooked up my mechanical/platter drive again to test, and it booted to the desktop fine.
