Yeah this is an option (I have only three slots of ISA, two of them taken so using softmpu can give me an extra slot for Gravis), but I want my computer to stay in a “vintage” way. My computer is a 486dx33 and how is the performance impact of softmpu?

More expensive than my whole build...

I think I would like a compatible card that is cheaper. I have seen a $69 music quest pc midi card on ebay before but I was not able to grab it...

Sure. The last Music Quest PC MIDI Card sold for $105+ without break out cable.

Finding an intelligent MPU-401 for < $75 is possible but requires luck and perseverance (extensive eBay / forum / Searchtempest queries over a long period of time) or plain old good luck.

Thank you keropi and PeterNY for information! Searchtempest is so powerful but my luck doesn't seem to be enough...

I have set up a SB16+XR385 build, and now I am trying to make SoftMPU work in my machine. I think I would like to help bjt to test some games with SoftMPU at first, but I am still finding an intelligent card.
