Hello,
One of the two floppy drives on my beloved A2000 just gave up the ghost, and I am looking to replace it. Anyone here sitting on a Chinon FB-354 that wouldn't mind parting with it for a good cause? Please hit me up if so!

: the strange thing with this drive failure is that I purchased some second hand software (Cannon Fodder II I believe) and tried the software with this drive. The box was quite stained and looked like it had been exposed to moisture (water damage). The first disk SQUEALED, after which I stopped the process and immediately ejected the disk. I can't recall the exact time line, but I believe the drive failed just after that. Just a warning- be careful out there with old software. I wonder if metal oxide or something else from the disk damaged my drive. :( Could have just been a coincidence that my drive died just after trying to read that nasty disk, but one never knows... A good cleaning of the heads with 100% isopropyl alcohol did not bring it back to life.

Anyways, thanks for letting me know if you have a drive to part with!

Chris

Hey,
I swaped a defective 354 of my A2000 with a replacement 354 scraped from an A500. You keep the metal case and swap the interior. Only trade off was I had to renounce the LED. Even though I soldered a LED to the exact same soldering points of the A500 drive, it wouldn`t light up on operation. But hey, you got a working drive. :sneaky:

Hi. On the other side of the planet but I have a working 354 (LED) out of my A3000. It was replaced with a HD 354A. Not sure about parting with it or sending that far but thought I'd put it here.
