Hi folks.

Odd question. Just wondering, the original version of the CM8833, does anyone know if they all shipped with a metal shield on the bottom PCB? I have two here, one without and one with. The one without otherwise seems original and my guess is it's too clean to have been removed by hand. There's no grounding cable on the power board, like there is on the other one, however the power cable itself is much thicker.

Just trying to figure out if it's origial or not.

Cheers.

later ones didnt have it,its not really needed anyway

they did the same to mk2's

does that help?

some were shipped with a 2 or three core mains cable, that also didnt matter, the earth was connected to ground on the main board on the 3 core versions

there is grounding cable on all the power supplies, its part of the 4 pin connector,it wouldnt work if it wasnt there :)

Yep, that definitely seems to be the case with mine. I like the thicker cable, seems a little more robust.

Incidentally the I don't like taking the shell off of the MK1, purely because of the short audio cable. Much easier on MK2.

yeah,it can be a bit fidly, something to take note of si that board can have loads of cracked solder joints, youll know if it is,the audio will play up and you have to remove the entire board to fix it,solder side faces inwards

Yes, going to give it a big once over, I know how many cold solder joints these can be prone to...love the monitors though. Incidentally this one actually still has it's original flyback. Is there anything realistically that can be done preventatively to stop it going, like resoldering any poor joints or is it likely to go at any time?

nope, itll go at some point they all do,its random, just use it till it dies

before i go,its not like they cant be repaired, documention is easy to find,i dont use it much for repairs, unless its soem obscure fault i need to reference somewhere
and if the flyback fails ,its not like it cant be got, depending on model

Yes, thankfully it seems like these are generally repairable, I've done a flyback and power switch on a MK2 before, as well as some speakers from what I remember.

They are genuinely my favourite monitors of all time, I love them. I just want a 1084 now! I know it's the same functionally more or less, but they look so nice.
