Hi Group,

This may not be the appropriate place to ask my question. If so, I'm sorry. But maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Is there anyone out there experienced with running CP/M on their C=128? If so, I have a few questions. I have an original Wordstar Disk that won't get a directory on it through CP/M. The drive reads the disk and returns a series of colons. No file listing. And, no errors. I am running the standard CP/M plus disk that came with the C=128 and dated Aug 1 1985. The Wordstar disk is Wordstar 2000 Plus - Star Exchange 1 - Release 3.00. I have two 1571's with the CP/M software as my A drive and the Wordstar disk as my B drive. I also just typed in "ws", "ws.com", and "B:ws" as guesses but, of course it just replied B:?

So, is the Wordstar disk even readable on my C=128? Does anyone out there have a Wordstar disk I buy or get a copy? I tried looking into the disk image thing, but to be honest, I don't have the hardware to pull it off. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Hmm... I know Wordstar should work on the C128 in CP/M mode. It's possible you just have a bad disk or it's been corrupted in some way. Do you have any other way to see if the disk is OK?

Hi Heather,
Thanks for replying. I don'thave any other way to check the disk. So, I'll wait 'till I can find another copy, or try and get a way to write a new disk via the disk image download process. Thanks!

Rob

CP/M software is only SOFTWARE compatible. What you are seeing is the major problem with CP/M systems at the time.
Back in the day some of the floppy formats were different between hardware manufacturers so a CP/M disk from one
system wouldn't work on some other CP/M system. The CP/M floppy incompatibility problem is well documented on the net.
If you google your problem you will see that Kaypro software works on the C128 in CP/M mode.
So try the Kaypro version of Wordstar. To find that.... google is your friend.
