For sale: Commodore 1940 monitor. Complete with original stand and hard-wired VGA cable. Does not include power cable, original box or instructions, just what is pictured. £75 collected or plus £15 postage (UK only.) Please read the full description.

This monitor is working but has some issues so is being sold as a ‘project’, I won’t say ’spares or repairs’ as it is still perfectly usable, I have put up with the faults for the last 5 years.

The Good:
- It is still pretty white with minimal yellowing, I have never ‘retrobrighted’ it
- Good cosmetic condition
- Includes the rare stand and control panel cover
- I had it serviced 2 years ago by a TV repair shop, I’m not sure exactly what they did but it was making a ‘fizzing’ sound which they fixed
- The power button isn't broken, common problem on these
- All of the controls work - overscan, brightness, horizontal/vertical adjust etc

The Not-So Good:
- It has no speakers inside (discovered when it was serviced.) I have no idea why, the previous owner must have removed them. However the headphone socket works, or you can connect speakers directly to your Amiga’s audio out.
- The hard-wired VGA cable has a loose connection resulting in a purple image (pictured.) this is easily remedied, just jam something underneath the cable where it leaves the monitor to push it up a bit
- Often the red signal stops working resulting in a blue image (pictured.) I have been advised this is probably due to a cold solder joint on the PCB. It usually starts working correctly after it has warmed up, or if you give it a couple of gentle taps on the side
- In the top left corner of the screen there is some ‘bleeding’ (not sure of the technical term) where the red and blue signals are slightly separated. It only affects a small area of the screen and is barely noticeable most of the time. I have been told there are some controls inside the monitor and adjusting these may correct it
- There is a small crack in the top left corner of the brown bezel
- One of the pegs that holds the control panel cover on has snapped off. I still have it and it is taped to the inside of the cover if you would like to try and glue it back on. As you can see in the photos the cover still holds in place, there’s just a bit of a gap where it sags
- The stand levers have snapped off, this happened during shipping when I bought it. Again I still have them and they are taped to the base if you want to try and glue them back on, but the base attaches fine without them
- Finally this is probably obvious but due to the faults and the fact it is 26 years old this monitor is sold as seen, no returns or refunds.

I think that is everything, but if you have any more questions please ask. Despite these faults it’s still a very good looking and sought-after monitor, and as you can see in the ’Simon The Sorcerer’ photo has a great picture.

The price is £75 and takes in to account the faults above. I would prefer collection (Brighton, UK) however am willing to post it to a UK address at the buyers risk for £15. I will do my best to pack it well using polystyrene etc but as no courier will insure a CRT monitor, the risk is on the buyer and therefore payment must be made by Paypal gift or bank transfer. Sorry I will not ship it overseas, it’s just too fragile.

Please comment in this thread if interested, thanks.

I’d buy it instantly if I was in UK... unfortunately I have no friends there to collect. Would you consider shipping to France? (Not that far... lol)

If I don't get any interest from UK buyers I might open it up to Europe (says Australia in your profile?) but will be on the same understanding that once it leaves me it's not my responsibility. I really don't enjoy asking that but there is literally no way I can guarantree a CRT monitor will be safe during shipping, this thing is old ane fraglile. It will come down to luck, how well it is handled by the couriers.

I’m French too... and my mum who lives there know a bit about my passion for Amigas... lol
Everything you write is totally acknowledged, mate. Wish you all the best for your sale in UK and will declare interest ONLY if you amend your post.

I have shipped several monitors this year, never a problem if done right. Farest was to Spain. I also got an Aplle IIgs screen from USA or Acorn ones from UK.
