I need some advice.
I recently bought an Sx64 which had a screen that displayed random garbage, so I repaced the vic chip with a standard c64 chip and got the display working.
So now I’d like to upgrade all the chips dual boot jiffydos, moss etc etc, but as im a complete newbie to commodore I’ve no idea as to what type/make of chips are the best to upgrade with.
Any ideas about upgrading any part of the machine will also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Honestly, I'd go with an EasyFlash 3. If allows you to have up to 8 kernel ROMs, like JiffyDOS, and it has 7 EasyFlash slots to use EasyFlash programs and games.

Of course, that won't add JiffyDOS to the 1541 in the SX64 so you might want to go with the hardware version for both the SX64 and built-in 1541. You could still use the EasyFlash 3 to override any hard wired ROM.

Good luck no matter what you decide. :)

Do the rom images get loaded via the usb port on the easyflash3, so you could use you pc to program all 8 slots?

You can use the USB to program the cartridge or you can even do it directly from the C64. If you are going to program the cartridge from the C64 then having a drive replacement (SD2IEC, uIEC/SD, or 1541 Ultimate) is highly recommended. You can look at the developer's information about the EasyFlash 3 as well as download the drivers for the USB from his web site.

Good luck!

I decided to buy both the EasyFlash 3 and the SX64 jiffydos kernel rom. I have a US and an EU SX64, 64G and a 64c without a case, so the EasyFlash will get a fair bit of use.
Thanks again for the advice.

You're very welcome! I have both of those items and they are amazing. I've been seriously thinking about getting a second EasyFlash 3 as a backup because it's such a great device.

Please let me know if you have any questions once they arrive.
