Hi all.

As per title, wondering how to copy files from an old hard disk to a new one on OS3.2.2 whilst retaining original date and time of files.

Does dragging and dropping keep original file attributes? Or do i have to do it another way?

Thanks!

Try Dopus v4 onwards (Directory Opus), there are settings to allow for what you want to achieve.

In AmigaOS "#?" does what "*" does in Linux (and all Posix OS I think").
In a simple explanation it means "everything". Asterisk is also used in regular expressions meaning "0 or more" occurrences of any character.

PS:
I emended my previous comment, you don't need "#?" in the destination, only the Disk where you want to copy all the files, so in your case "DH1:"

No. As you will have a syntax error 👍🏻 AmigaDOS uses both for Wildcard like as explained the “*” in both DOS and UNIX/LINUX OS.

According to examples 4 and 5 on the page I’ve linked above, you do not need wildcards/patterns if you specify ALL when copying disk/directory.
To preserve the original dates, you need to include DATES switch, and to preserve all attributes including dates, the CLONE switch.

So
copy sdh1: dh1: clone all
should do the job.

Please let us know how quickly the copying worked, and if it worked at all the way you wanted.

I believe using of option QUIET could speed it up.

QUIET stops it displaying the information on the screen so should speed up the operation.
