Hey guys, I would like to buy or trade a C2D T7400 or 7200 so I can upgrade my new mac mini from a C1S to a C2D. I can pay up to $50 or can offer trades or a combination. I do not have any Amiga items stocked but I do have some other things I may trade. Ask me what PC or other part you want and I will see if I have it. I also have some video games I could offer up, Xbox, 360, GC are some platforms that come to mind

FYI I just upgrade mine. Things to note:

  1. You won't be able to install Lion even if you upgrade to a T7400 without patching the install. Plus it needs patching every major upgrade. This is because the 2006/2007 MacMini has a 32-bit EFI and so is not compatible with the 64-bit Lion Kernel.
  2. Either the T7400 or the GMA250 doesn't have QUITE enough grunt for very busy 1080p scenes. (Try a Firefly 1080p BluRay rip). As I'm not sure if it is CPU power or memory bandwidth, I can't say if it would get any better with a T7600.
  3. You _WILL_ break the CPU heatsink clips when changing the CPU. Make sure you've got four M3x40 size nylon screws and bolts. They will be too long but you'll need them that long to get the nuts on. Use wire cutters to cut the nylon bolts to length after.

Thank you Alex, I've already known that. The main bottleneck to this mini is the GMA950, its subpar in many aspects, but hey, I got the thing for free, so I'm not complaining.

With lion it is easily circumvented by removing the plist file that acts as a whitelist, but I'm not interested in Lion as of yet. My goals lie with upgrading the FW to 2.1 from 1.1 version, so that I can use 3GB RAM, as I have a 2GB module and a 1GB module and thats the max it will address unless I hack the kernel, which I may down the line.

And I watch 720p anyways, as the my eye can barely discern the difference (At least for me, but i have thick glasses like the soles of my shoes.) Less resource intensive, my G4 Powermac runs it fine on MacTubes.

I did this, but the plist file(s) are reinstalled when you get big OS updates (combo updater) from Apple. This bricks your Mac (until you can remove it again using a boot disc)

I assume it has a minipcie port for wifi?

Take that out, put in a Broadcom crystal hd (they are £12 on eBay) and you get hardware video decoding.

Will run 1080p etc no problem and it's a cheap upgrade. Might be able to squeeze a USB wifi card inside the case and still retain all features

I really dont need 1080p video decoding but thanks for the info. All I want is a CPU upgrade as I have all the other parts to upgrade it.

no prob, this cpu was removed from my netbook .. so it should be ok on yours ;)

Guys, can you please carry on your discussion elsewhere? I appreciated Alexh's advice, but it is beginning to be a nuisance with a sideconversation in the thread. I am not interested in hardware decoding, thank you.

Offtopic commentry removed. Let's keep the thread on-track, we're after a T7400 Core 2 Duo.

(For your mini, don't forget that a T7200 or T7600 should also work)

Thanks a lot Andy! And yes, I'm aware now, at the time i wrote the post I only knew of the 7400 and 7200, but any would be gladly welcomed
