CHEAP! GOOD PRICE! SPECIAL! HURRY UP! 100% ORIGINAL JAPANESE/MOTOROLA/TI/... ELECTRONICS... from China
:D

You've got what you paid for and that sort of sellers just don't care about reputation. They do care about sales, so they will just reopen company with new name and wait for "clients", who want "100% original Rolex for only 4.99 include shipping"

These sellers will exist, while YOU looking for "better price", "good deal", "cheaper".
These sellers will exist, while YOU buying "100% original electronics" from China.

YOU can stop it by buying locally. YOU can stop it by buying less(ask yourself, why do you need 10/50/100/... with good price, but most likely fake chips instead of 2-3 obtained locally, but from guaranteed source)

QFT!

Good advice. I avoid anything from China or made in China where possible.

90% of PC and Mac components are made in China. Some of the most reputable hardware manufacturers are Chinese or at least based in or around China :p

**WARNING** Fake 68060's from China via eBay Seller "2016newbeginning" **WARNING**

So yesterday I received a supposedly MC68060RC75 CPU from China. Now I have read report that this type of CPU doesn't actually exists so I wasn't expecting it to be genuine, but because eBay have there "eBay Money Back Guarantee" I thought I would take a chance and was willing to except it even if it turned out to be a MC68060RC (Rev 1).

So here is a picture of the original eBay Advert!

Original Ebay Advert.JPG

Looks pretty good

This is what arrived (not so good).

What Arrived T.jpgWhat Arrived B.jpg

When the processor arrive I could tell it wasn't right, text was all wrong and nothing like the original picture but I thought I would test it anyway

.

Has expected this is what I was granted with by WhichAmiga .

WhichAmigaResult.jpgPhoto 1

Well well well, has expected not a MC68060RC75 but a MC68LC060 (Rev 4)

On closer inspection you can actually see the original Motorola symbol to the right of the fake text. here are some pictures

So time for the Return Process

So last night I proceed to conduct the return process.

Now this is important you must select "Doesn't match Description or photos" I believe there is another selection which say "believe item to be counterfeit" which is also a good one.

Armed with the picture evidence above this is what I put in the reason for return Comment Box:
Item is a fake, description states it to be a MC68060RC75 but this is the lower cost MC68LC060 version meaning it not the full RC version which means it doesn’t have the FPU built in.

The marking on this have been painted over the original, If you look carefully you can faintly see where the original Motorola symbol should be due to the length of the original name being longer, seen in photo 2 and 3

I’ve added a screenshot of my hardware showing it to be an LC model not an RC, seen in Photo 1.

I wanted to write more but eBay only allow a curtain amount of characters in this Comment Box.

This morning I received a "Partial Refund" offer of £35 stating here is an Partial refund offer if you are not happy with this offer the item would need to be returned and he would forward his address

I declined this offer, I'm lot paying close to £45 for an IC you can get on eBay for less

Now one thing I was preparing myself for was the seller trying ask me to return the item at cost to me, but I was armed with this has a comeback!!

On this eBay page it states (click Here)

Who pays for return postage?
The seller pays for return postage if the item was damaged, faulty, or doesn't match the listing description, or if they offer a free returns policy.

Also I found this eBay page about "Counterfeit Items" (Click Here)

eBay will arrange for the purchase price plus original shipping to be refunded through PayPal, and we’ll work with you to ensure proper disposal of the item as per the eBay Money Back Guarantee Policy.

So expecting this I was preparing my response, but to my surprise I was issued a full refund with no obligation to return the Item :o

Just this in the Refunds comment

Comment
please don't leave any neutral or negative feedback

Now I'm probably still going to give neutral feedback because he is still selling counterfeit good and buyers should be warned

So I was lucky but remember if the seller is trying to make you return an item at cost to you, if its not has described the seller is liable for this (Well under eBay UK policy which the seller would be under due to selling on Ebay UK even though living in China), Hope this helps

**WARNING**So buyers BEWARE when buying from eBay seller "2016newbeginning" **WARNING**

Sorry to hear you got bitten by a fake Rev 6 too - they are still out there and it seems much harder to get anywhere near a real one :(

I have just bought this one, having had a previous try when I started this thread years ago!:

Looks to be about the right print etc, but will be able to tell when I test it over the weekend. I will give details of the seller once I have checked it out, but it is an ebay seller other have had good results from in the past for a Rev. 6

Good thing it was bought on ebay - ebay very rarely side with the seller in cases such as this, and sellers know it and will just try it on. Part of the game, sadly!

Lets take some bets, will be testing at the weekend, but another ebay purchase, so might need to use seller protection

I did think maybe the text was a little too white - is that the tell?

And,so I got bored and tested it... The results are:

SO it is a fake and the ebay returns process has been started (identifying the product as a counterfeit in the options) - let's see what fun and games they try and play.

Here is a link to the item, and the seller is one who has been providing Gen Rev 6s - Funkward-Tech, so it seems there are no reliable sources at all - you take a chance no matter what. Even the guys who are selling tested ones must have to go through this process, I admire their patience!:

Let's see if they play ball with a refund or want to try and fight it!

Stachu - spot on, good spot and made me test it sooner ;)

I got two of those exact same fakes from that seller after having bought from him a genuine Rev. 6 a while ago.
I complained and sent the fakes back, got real Rev. 6 ones in return.
From the looks of it, you've been sent one of those I returned...

This is why eBay need to enforce the counterfeit rule more

austinsom make sure you make the seller realise that he is accountable for the return postage of this Item unless he will replace it with a real one

They do for sure, as the seller has accepted the return, so it could potentially now be sold on to someone else. I will be contacting ebay to explain their own rules and see what they have to say about it! I don't really want this CPU going back out, as perhaps for some applications, it gets installed and people are none the wiser.

On the plus side, the seller has said they will pay for tracked return shipping, so as I have a UPS account that's what they'll be paying for, as it is convenient to me. If they argue, I will point out they should have tested their CPU first and there would be no return. We will see what ebay say about the counterfeit issue first though!

Happy Days

Yes they should but sadly not everyone is lucky enough to own an Amiga like us

CPU has now been collected and off back to China for them to sell again:roll: (be interested to see if their listing shows more stock when it gets back!). I asked why they sent a fake and whether they test them before sending. No answer to either, so being nice, they must get them from a third party on trust. They have recently got a neg. from another buyer for selling fake 030s too. Guess I best put up a WTB thread now

They're buying from vendors in quantity of hundreds, and they're not going to test them individually (and that assumes they have the equipment to test them.) My guess is that they don't know for sure that the chips have been remarked, but probably suspected it. Not testing the chips also gives them plausible deniability later.

The problem is they list items as 100% real rev.6 100% working. If they don’t know what they’re receiving and have no way of testing it, they shouldn’t be making those claims. They should sell as untested, but then they can’t claim top dollar. I guess it’s worth the risk to them, but as the primary market now is likely retro computers and users word will spread they can’t be trusted. They then won’t be able to sell any real rev.6 they may have.

Real shame as demand is soon to go through the roof with the tf1260, warp1260 and ACA1260. Oh well!

Surprisingly no, I haven’t, at least not yet! If they try that on it just shows they haven’t got a clue! A sad end for a seller who did provide genuine rev.6

I will wait and see what happens when it gets back to them.
