I feel like I need to go to a meeting and start with the line " hi everyone, my name is Colin, and I am addicted to retro computers"
Now I know many of you have huge collections, so in reality it's not so exceptional, but I already considered that I had gone too far in accumulating the kit in my signature. I mean who needs an 060 for occassional game play? Let alone a spare a1200 with blizzard 1230 IV. But then the other day I saw a cheap c64 on eBay not far from me.... And then I saw a really cheap plus 4 (which is the only one I actually owned as a kid) and so just for the hell of it I bid on that....and won....so now I think my spare miggy will be freed to fund expansions on the c64....WHERE WILL IT ALL END?

Yeah we all need to be institutionalised lol

Thankfully I'm beginning to overcome my addiction :D

Hi Colin, My name is Steve, and I am also a hoarder or retro machines. My friends at work don't understand and have tried to intervene on several occasions. It got so bad at one point I was hiding machines in an office in a different country to hide my addiction. I am now trying to set a budget each month.

I can personal vouch for your addiction buddy:lol:. How's the latest batch of stuff I sent ya?

Hi
it is not a PROBLEM itself as long you have the money and place to store
if you have a family on your own then better care about them first
there are two categories of people here:
the ones who need to buy back memories to have them near their hearts physically to play or not with
and then you have the ones who buy to sell later on for money only or just for collecting addiction
as myself I buy memories because can't keep all in my head and I personaly play with them and transmit THIS to my children and friends also.
It is a phylosophy after all
Do whatever you do as long you do not destruct yourself and others but I know it is a pain to keep this going on.
Retro is the best at my eyes but to ride in the forest on my BMX and listen to some SIDs is remarkable also!
good luck

regards

alex

If I didnt have to have this stuff for my games nights my "CUPBOARD OF STUFF!!(TM)" would be empty

You're already at that meeting

I'm Dave, and I'm a retroholic, as a lot of members on here. It's been zero days since I last picked up a retro computer.

it is not a PROBLEM itself as long you have the ...... place to store

When I lived in a really small studio flat (not much more than a glorified bedsit) I spent about fourteen years sleeping on the floor because when I moved in there was not enough room for all my computers. So I threw out the bed to make room for them.

Most people think I was mad, but when I got a bigger place I was able to buy a cheap bed and good mattress. If I had slung out the computers instead it would take years, possibly decades, to replace them.

I don't think the problem is collecting itself, its keeping focus for me. I've ended up with 8 systems and was buying stuff for all of them. Now Im only buuing for 3 of them and have stored a lot of stuff away. Everything's a lot more organised now and I have lots more space.

I had a collection 18 months ago that many would envy, but too much stuff to really enjoy it.

Since having a mass clear out I'm enjoying my systems a lot more. I have evrything setup and ready to play with exception to Games consoles that I hook up to my PVM or projector when I want to play them.

Now I have clear focus on just a hand full of Amiga's I'm finding out much more about these systems and getting them 100% as I want them.

So for me, less is more

One more raising the hand to speak!
Man, i have an excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the stuff i have ( and the ones that are in transit..)
One does not have time nowadays to play with all this stuff, but really i couldnt take the time to stop and decide what stays and what has to go, but i think its unavoidable.

The time to choose is coming because my little room is so full i can barely move inside it!

My wife is very close to an ultimatum, but my son loves to play with the old machines with me.
Money is no problem as yet, but the maintenance costs are getting high.
And the house space and free time of course are the premium commodity for me at least.

But who really needs 4 different versions of msx computers, 5 64 computers, two acorn electrons, one bbc modelb, 2 a500,and the list goes...

They are neatly placed in shelves but the new ones are fighting for space over the sofa in my little room.

Well, lets see one more ad the ebay, lol...

Once you create a spreadsheet that's like the Alcoholics moment of truth lol, When you go for your hidden bottle of cheap Cider in the Toilet Cistern! You know it's Game Over

I too have more stuff than I'll probably ever use, but the reason why I have the extra stuff is because until I use them I won't know whether I like them or not.

Passing up the opportunity to buy these items might mean that the chance never comes again.

I'm slowly clearing stuff out that I'm not so bothered about, because it boils down to taste at the end of the day.

One person's dream come true is another person's junk.

...Xena Warrior Princess anyone?

Hello my name is Nathan and I am a retroholic. It has been two days since my last purchase, a boxed Atari 130XE. That right there proves how bad I've got it. I bought an Atari.... Now I need a 1050 and data cable. And a bunch of disk games, and one of those compact flash card drives and ......

Oh man, since I started this thread I have ordered an sd2iec for the 64/plus 4 and even won another 64! Dammit WHY? On a side note, anyone know if one of those C64 video to composite/svideo cables will also work on the plus 4.?

I have been under the addiction a fair bit myself, but have turned off "I want everything" to "I might sell off some spares". It all changed when I moved house and realized my initial "only buy what I'll have set up and use" was history quite some boxes ago.

Now I'm slowly selling off extras. Just can't part with them without making sure they are set up properly for next owners. I don't like selling stuff to people I know won't understand how to make the most out of them. I would never last as a salesman.

I hear you (turns around to get another sip of coffee at collectors anonymous meeting).
:coffee:
Exactly my feelings, cant stand the tought of someone buying to make a "quick buck".
We have seen people buying stuff from other collectors here in Brazil, and selling in our local evilbay-alike (mercado livre).

Sometimes never bothering taking another picture, using the same that was used innthe original ad, showing even the original sellers room and stuff, lol.

I am an Amigaholic. Saturday I went to Ikea.....to purchase some desk shelves....for my Amigas! :)
Also, yesterday I broke my soldering iron....now I dont know what to do with myself. I have no excuses....I might have to actually use one of my Amigas instead of repairing or modding them :(
