My stuff has started to creep out of my shelves and onto the floor! I have simply ran out of room and no amount of shuffling stuff about will fix it!

I also got this serious addiction. Just bought my 14th C64. In the long run I will keep CPC464, 800XL, C64 breadbin and slim modified C64c. The good thing with this selection is they all use the same joysticks which I have plenty. I try to limit my collection to 64k 8-bit models. Almost bought some Amigas but luckily my limit is holding

A few days ago I have realized I am a hoarder but it did not stop me form buying additional 21 ZX81 just to keep a company to 16 I own already :roll:

The problem with old stuff is that it might break and will be hard to fix or replace. That's why I have 2+ of most of my machines
I tend only to buy stuff I had as a kid and remember but now i want stuff i couldn't have when i was a kid, like an Archimedes and a C128D.

I already have a Spectrum +3 and a Spectrum Plus. Why would I want to buy a defunct rubber key Spectrum? Precisely for the reason it's defunct.

I love this thread, makes me feel a whole lot better I started buying what I had, i.e. the typical nostalgic route. But this quickly turned to what I never could afford and for a while it's even turned to retail therapy, which is probably why i now need to sell off items to use the money elsewhere. I really hate selling stuff. But I do only buy what I'll use or enjoy, I don't go for complete collections or model variants. I'm also with Steve that less is more, which combined with my retail therapy state is probably why I'm not enjoying the hobby lately.

All this "stuff" I have gotten over the last 2-3 years to "fix up" and now it seems I hardly have time for it

I did however just remove the caps off of a 4000T i/o module and started cleaning the pads, I notice how dull the solder pads were and my o' my .. quite the little mess but fixable

But I do have fun doing it so it's all good for now

I've (somehow) managed to stick with a single retro computer for the past 4 years (A1200) but I'm constantly tempted to get one of the following:

A500+ (the daddy)
Atari STE (my back-in-the-day computer as I was too poor to buy an Amiga A500+)
ZX-81 (my first computer!)
ZX Spectrum (another computer I badly wanted but couldn't afford back-in-day)
C64 (yet another computer I badly wanted but couldn't afford back-in-day)

I am surprised that my wife has not got upset for my retro computer collection. I have 14 systems and growing. I guess the only good news is that its a fairly cheap hobby. (well it can be) unless you collect Apple. Great thread.

Thankfully most of the things i have, i have set up to play. All my consoles + Amiga its like a spaghetti junction of leads and splitters going into 1 tv though lol. On the plus side my 4 year old son seems to love the retro games more than modern ones. I think they appeal to kids because they are just far more diverse than games of today.

My urge to collect hardware is stopped in its tracks by the space I have, so most often I just collect original games and play them in emulated form (where possible, I like to dump my own media, though in some cases space makes this an issue, too)... It takes up less space, at least!

I will speak for myself . People that have lots of computers, and are allways buying stuff for themselves and there is allways something missing in their collection, are called collectors. All those things they get will rarely be used. If there is space and if there isn't much influence in their personal lifes, in case of family matters, then I think it's ok. Thanks to those guys we still have living pieces of computer/software history. For those who just want to play games and have fun with software. I think they should stick to the basic, just play the games and mess with the old software. Do not try to pimp you amiga too much, you will end up giving up and not enjoying as you should. That happened to me. Do not try to make your old computer do things as newer computers do, you will get frustrated and think that the machine is rubish. I as other users here , got a nice collection and sold all, and I say that I am enjoying things that I didn't imagine I would enjoy, like the C64, being allways an amiga enthusiast.
Just want to say, I think there is no curse, we are just doing what we like to do, if we do no harm to other people or ourselves, then, why stop?
