Hi guys! Not sure if anyone could help?My Amiga CD32 is on it's way back from a hefty repair job (it was pretty much at death's door.) Repair was done by our very own TheCorfiot (Thanks bud! :D) he's managed to save it with one casualty - the power-up/reset circuit has suffered signficant track erosion and the power switch has failed on one pole.

From what I'm told, powering on the console will now be akin to starting up a ZX Spectrum 48k - Insert cable, system powers on. Remove cable to power off. Everything else works as intended.

I got to thinking: I OWN a ZX Spectrum, and I got over the power on hurdle by buying a handy pre-made power switch like the one in the picture. Power supply connects to switch, which connects to system. Flick the switch to start the system. Easy! I was wondering - surely this would be possible for the CD32 as well? Obviously it hasn't been mass produced because there aren't that many of us with this problem :) The idea sounds simple enough, I know the CD32 uses the 4 pin DIN connector, and these are quite readily available. A switch like this would make life so much easier, and save some wear and tear on the console too.

Is it possible? Is it easy to do?

I have no experience with wiring/hardware mods, so ideally if this CAN be done I'm looking for a good pair of hands to put this together for me? I'm happy to pay a reasonable price for parts, labour and shipping!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Chris

Instead of a CD32 custom solution, just get a switch like that and connect it between the PSU and the wall. It's a pretty common switch that's used for lamps etc.

Haha. Funny. This guy, everyone!

No I'll stick to what I asked for thanks. A setup like mine NEEDS a switch close to the console. Getting to the plug sockets behind THAT mess of wires would be a nightmare.

You don't have to be a jerk about it, was trying to help... good luck on your project.

comraider, I've only just realised what you meant. I thought you were being sarcastic and referring to the switch on a wall plug socket. Massive apologies, I was a jerk.

If possible I'd like to try and get the cable I'm after, it saves hacking up my PSU, and I do need the switch to be closer, however now I know what you actually meant it's definitely an option.

Sorry again

No problem! :) we're all friends here.

If those types of switches come in a DPDT variety, you could use that and switch on/off both the 5V and 12V lines coming in from the PSU. The DIN connector shouldn't be hard to find to wire it all together.
