I've heard from Stachu the GREX has a flaw where it takes some time to warm up before the machine will start. Maybe leave it running a few minutes then do a reset. You can start the A4000 without a busboard installed, so you could remove the GREX and see if you can start the machine with just the CSPPC to see if it's working.

Try to run Amiga without G-Rex. I had issue with my setup - I though that G-Rex was broken but the problem was 060 CPU socket on CSPPC. There was no contact and Amiga started only if I pressed down CPU. After Stachu100 resoldered CPU socket everything was just fine. Try to find out what can cause problems.

Well, I have been at it all day... I have been pulling my hair out trying to get things working. You'll be pleased to know that I have a CF card with Workbench 3.9 installed on it now (it's even an 8Gb version) - So to come on to that, it's a step in the right direction from this morning.

Thank you to the guys that suggested that I should take the GREX out, I took it out, put the original backplate back, and things just sprang back to life.

I no longer had a machine that was non-functioning, although, I did have a machine, that I couldn't get the DVD Rom drive working on (for two weeks I have been trying to get that operational)

I did also buy a Bigram plus, which, I understand will not work once I get the GREX Working, but I can happily say with 2Mb Chipram, 16Mb Fast Ram on board, and 128Mb on the processor, and 256Mb on the BigRam Plus, I feel as though I have one hefty machine... (well, until the GREX is installed anyway)

As far as this thread is concerned, If I have any more issues, I will post in the right section, AmiOracle, as it's likely the right thing to do.

Thanks again all.

Colin

I can only think about two things, one is too low 5V and other, if you also have SCSI connected, SCSI termination. G-REX should be fully functional I never had any problem with it, no need to warm up etc. If voltage is OK, there will be problem, because I don't have any idea what can be wrong :-/ In this case you can send me back G-Rex, I'll try to find someone here with CSPPC to test it on other system.

Don't worry FLOPS, I am not suggesting you have sold me a faulty piece of equipment at all, I have been using this site long enough to understand that people here are genuine and when they put an object up for sale it's always functioning, so I have no qualms or issue. It is, what it is, I am going to purchase a MicroATX PSU along with an adapter, and we'll see what occurs after that.

This task has been a learning experience for me, I am not going to lie, I have come from an Amiga 1200 (which I lovingly store under my bed in a drawer) but have been wanting an Amiga 4000D for a very long time (20+ years) I just love and have always loved a big box Amiga, so I am very happy to have one. I understood that I would need to get a PCI bridgeboard along with RTG and network, this had always been my plan, but I knew it would come at a cost...

I could have got an A3000, an A2000 or an A1500, but they weren't the ones I wanted, I wanted to go as late as possible. (AGA non-wedge machine) And I am happy I did. OK, the front bezel could do with brightening a bit as it's a bit yellow, but that's a plan for the summer, when the weather is better in the UK.

I have no way of knowing what the 5 volt rail is actually putting out, I am a techie by trade, but I am not an electrician... :) We'll see how things pan out afterwards.

On the question of CSPPC's - Do you know if you have left the flash on the accelerator as GREX compatible or is back in non-GREX mode? (I won't flash it, but just asking the question)

Thanks

Colin

Instead of a MicroATX PSU buy a SFX PSU. it have the EXACT width as the A4000 stock PSU...

chucky,

I am not sure if linking is allowed here, but when you say SFX, do you mean this?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01CR5XJR6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

If so, that is the one I got, I looked at the measurements, and it seems like the depth is not as deep, but all in all, quite a comparative shape/size psu.

I'll just have to get some form of metal or perpex block out the additional space that a smaller psu will leave.

Colin

yes- as the width is exact.. but you need to solve the powerswitch and extraspace in height. or. as I have done. changed the guts in the original PSU.. so it still looks original

No worries, I didn't think in that way, but if there be any problems with G-REX, I'll try to do my best to help resolve it. If will not work at all, I'll refund G-REX. CSPPC have G-REX compatible flash. CSPPC whole time works with G-REX in my A4000D and I had view on Voodoo even in early startup. If you have on disk G-REX compatible flash, you can try to flash it, because in past (about 6 years ago, maybe more) when I bought first BPPC I had problems with ppc.library and with BlizzardVision, flashing card resolve my problem.

Thank you to everyone who commented on this thread, in the support when I was going through some troubled times in getting things working together, I have now got the sound working, the graphics card setup and a network card, all work.

The Warp3D, now that's a story for another day, grey backgrounds and freezing up is all I get now, but I know it's working, as the test program works.. When I have more time, I'll investigate further in using a Voodoo 3 3000 in 3D... So far, I am happy with what I have.

Positive feedback left from my side today.
