Thats good and sadly I think I read this morning on Joystiq they are shutting down the PS3 servers at the end of May :(

But it lives on  in PC land.

Dark Souls don't utilize a dedicated server and it's based on a p2p system. So unless Live!/PSN close down then Dark Souls is safe.

ATLUS is closing down the NA Demon's Souls dedicated server after ~3 years on 31st of May. They are organizing a couple of Tendency events and invite everyone to log in for one last time :)

Hellz yeah... bye bye frame rate problems! Welcome 2560x1600 with AA!

Yes, finally a PC version. Cannot wait. Hope it's a good port though

Bah, I still think they should spend their time on new games instead of ports. On the other hand, with the news of Demon's Souls server shutting down in the US, it's good to get a "handful" of new players for Dark Souls. Means it'll be longer before that game is empty :)

I never played DarkSouls, looks very Elder Scrolls, I think I'll try it out on PC :)

Last I used gfwl it was a pain and severely unstable (Dow II). Is it better now? I do like that my achievements are mixed with my 350 ones

I see there's a an anti gfwl petition running. Seriously? Man, just be glad they are making a pc port at all! For some people it's never good enough.

The main thing I like about GFWL is that you get achievements :)

Also it is easier to type messages to your Xbox live friends!

Doesn't seem to be much new GFWL titles so surprised to see Dark Souls will be one.

It could be because the xbl and gfwl share API interfaces, so they don't have to do much to implement it.

Yeah talking to xbox friends is a major + for me with GFWL. I just wish you could add games to it like with Steam, you can add any non Steam game to Steam and be able to use the Steam overlay, hell even your friends can see you are playing non Steam games with the name you added. Just a shame you can't add games to GFWL and use the overlay.

I can assure you it has nothing to do with any Elder Scrolls game
Dark Souls is all about exploring and battle precision/planning, it's hard to explain but a bug can kill you if you are not careful. Sure it has rpg elements and leveling/stats but the real-time battle system steals the spotlight. It's mechanics are so unique that only Demon's Souls offers the same.

There are events to attend to (if you have the right timing) or npcs to find/help/get rewards but you don't take quests in the traditional sense, you might find someone and miss his quest line completely if you are not careful.

You really have to dig hard to find a game that leaves you this satisfied when you defeat a boss! It never get's easy - you always have to be on your toes. It's the battle system Skyrim SHOULD have had :)
Saying this about Demon Souls, since I haven't played Dark Souls yet. Is Dark Souls better or worse btw?

slk486 graphically its an awesome advancement. The environment/levels is easily at least 3 times bigger now.
Battle is more or less the same but this time armor has a huger impact and you have the poise factor now (heavier armor = higher poise that makes it harder for someone to break your attack or stun you).. Also you have more weapon upgrade paths.
The world is more complex, way more variety and the same (actually more) depressing feeling. And due to the complexity of coventants/environment I feel that invasions are better in Dark Souls (PvP)
Also we have the "forest gift" (IMHO) that FROM gave us: members of the Forest Hunters Covenant are called from all over the place to defend the forest against intruders which means that once you set your foot there there is a constant stream of PvP and some times you are battling 2 or 3 hunters... ofcourse you can summon a friend and have it 2 against 2... it's like an arena of some sorts, but WAY more cooler. Anything goes to the forest, backstabs, cheap tactics, awesome duels, unfair duels etc... LOL

Funny you mention that for Skyrim , personally I want to see a *Souls game in Skyrim's vast environment, not Skyrim with the *Souls mechanincs :)

[snip]

I guess I should pick it up soon, then :) Better go PC to avoid frame rate issues. As long as it supports controllers properly!

Even better! :D

slk486 the PS3 version is fine, there is only one area with framerate issues and it's not that bad... instead of 30 you get 20... the rest of the game is just awesome and Blighttown seems just a scratch (Blighttown is the 5-2 equivalent but way more complex - also it's the framerate area)
if you can get the ps3 version cheap go for it until we get the pc version that will be superior (unless they screw things up LOL)
