an interesting conversion with dave hayne.
C64 DMA didn't work and thats why the CPM cart didn't work as was withdrawn from sale and no one noticed that the 1541 couldn't read a CPM disk, although the 1571 could.
The A4000 was to be a different machine but financial problems meant it was just an AGA machine and not the A3000+. The A5000 on the other hand was to be a complete departure for commodore. A modular system. PCI bus, probably PowerPC but ultimately the Amiga would of had X86 processors as it was just not cost effective to compete.
ESCOM where looking at an A500 plus design which would compete with the current PCs.
Postscript built in to Workbench in the last year at Commodore.
in 1991 , they were working a CPU socket AMI bus but PCI looked better.
The Software (workbench) should of become open source in the Escom days to continue development. development is too slow and its not serious now. sadly its not important now.
The cdtv was too expensive and didn't do enough when it was released. The CD32 was much better but commodore couldn't afford the components to make them. They had to pay cash for the parts to make them as they couldn't get credit.
No big killer apps on the CD32 and no advertising either as Commodore marketing had no money. Business wise Commodore were falling apart at this time. Even though the cd32 sold well in Europe.
The death bed video was accidental as he happened to have the video camera in the car. on that Tuesday half the work force was fired. Most of Commodore on Friday was at a wedding and none of the employees knew the company had declared bankruptcy late on Friday. Dave continued filming at Commodore for the next few days and the parties that followed and the reactions of the fired employees.
