Hi folks, not really an AmiOracle topic but has anyone got any experience of using the DivIDE interface for teh Spectrum? I'm thinking of getting one for my new 128 machine but would prefer to do so if I can get some feedback :)

Cheers all

John

Fitzsteve is your man, he's got a story board up on his spectrum here or on EAB. I have one of these just haven't got round to setting it up.

I did a thread about mine a while ago HERE
I took it to r3play where it ran for the whole event without incident. I still regularly get it out to play with and it's absolutely awesome.

For me it's the single best upgrade for any spectrum you can make.

My +2 is also hacked to make use of two extra standard 9 pin joystick ports, meaning that I don't have to rely on flimsy SJS joysticks, and can use Mega Drive Joypads or Competition Pro's as I wish. :)

Hey SkillZ!

DivIDE is indeed a great bit of kit, I do have a thread over at EAB but it was actually about trying to backup Floppy Disk games on my +3, in the end we decided the easiest solution for me was to just get a DivIDE and play the games off that!

It really is a great bit of kit, had to try a few CF's before I got one that worked, they need to be setup with a RAW partition or something, I forget now but its in the instructions. Anyway the one that does work is a 1gb Sandisk

Dead simple to use, just put your TAP, SNA, etc files on the CF card (I have mine in A-Z folders) and then use the buttons to go to folder and choose your game! Simples. SNA's load up right from the menu for TAP files you need the good old Load"" command  But they load instantly :D

Anyway, I'd say its defo worth getting one

Steve.

Thanks folks

Phil I didn't know you had that there mate - wish I'd seen it in action :(

I'm getting it then. Should I get the Kingston Mouse thing as well so that I have a joystick port? I've currently got a RAM Turbo for my Spec 128 but it's using the expansion port and not sure the pass through will accommodate the DivIDE?

What do you think?

Cheers

I have a Kempston 2 Port Joystick Interface with Passthrough and the DivIDE works fine hanging off the back of that

Hope you enjoy it :)

Steve.

Thanks again for the advice folks - just bought one :)

I'll play around with this whilst Phipsy is borrowing my MMC64 :)

@Skillz

the Ram Turbo provides two Kempston compatible interfaces on start up - if you want to use Protek then you turn off the spectrum - plug in a joystick in left hand joy-port and press the fire button - keep this pressed and turn on you spectrum, once its booted the Ram Turbo joystick ports are in Protek (cursor maped) mode.

the Ram Turbo also provides a full Z80 expansion port bus pass through so it should work with the DivIDE

Here is a RamTurbo Manual

BTW I have one of these two!

Hehe cheers Keith - didn't know that about the button press. Saw that the RAM Turbo had a full Z80 passthrough so just bought the DivIDE on that basis.

Looking forward to it actually. Kinda want to see how some of the 128 specific games run (from memory though it's just better sound that you got with these 128 only games - but that'll do)

:)

Now is there a CF solution for my ZX81 LOL

J

I got mine from eBay as well (there's one left I think) and this is from the guy who makes them as well.

Cheers

John

Hi,

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but i'm looking at getting a DivIDE interface for the ZX Spectrum, if i load a game such as SNA, Z80 or TAP do i have the options the save the game and reload at a later date?

regards

DJ

@djbasics123

Unfortunately at present the DivIDE doesn't have Write support, thus you can only load TAP's SNAps and Z80's.

I have been working on some devices that DO allow you to save to hard-disk device and recently I have taken recipt of some new PCB's I have had made that will certainly be of interest to you and our fellow spectrum brethern =)

Hi to all,

I have the next hardware:

ZX +3e with ROMs updated, working floppy drive, ....
Zetr0's IDE interface
DivIDE
SD HxC floppy emulator (usable on +3e ? )

What is the best hw combination to load, play and save games and load at later time?

Sorry for this stupid questions , but I'm a bit lost.

Thanks in advance
