My A2000 has a A2630 card with a DKB 2632 installed. I'm having a problem with my A2000 locking up with this RAM card installed when it is hot. I have tried multiple SIMMs different sizes, matching them when possible and only using one at a time to rule out bad SIMMs. Jumpers were set correctly when switching them out. I also ran a RAM tests on the initial setup when it was much cooler and they passed. It has been pretty hot in my house lately, around 85-90 degrees so it may just be that. But it seems pretty suspect that my system will lock up so easily when hot. I do know that when it is cooler, system runs fine and will only lockup when overheating after a bit. Though I have not had the chance to test it with much cooler temps just yet. Have to either exit the heat wave or get A/C for the house!

Are these cards that prone to overheating and locking up?

Hi

Try adding passiv cooling to IC U300 on the DKB (KS84C32) as I suspect the memory controller is overheating.

This board has several design bugs which are likely to show up under certain conditions (overheating or overclocking) but first try to re-seat the socket mounted chips. Also check the power connector for a good connection. Also check the +5V supply. Some SIMMs may work and others may fail but the board may work better when populated with multiple SIMMs. The A2630 also has some design bugs so under ideal conditions the board just barely works @ 25 MHz.

I reseated the card and power connector and it seems to be working ok now. Hopefully this was the problem. Maybe it was not getting power as those Molex connectors sure can be flakey!

Started locking up again. But it was 90 in the house!!

tried the card in another A2500 and it seems to be working 100% on this one even in HOT temps!!! What gives? Bad A2630 card or PS?

Probably bad power supply with voltage drop on the 5V rail.

Where is the female connector? On the 2630 or in the DKB board? Chances are there is some oxides in the connector.

Just an update. Still an issue. I removed the DKB card and installed it into another machine, a A2500. It seemed to fix the issue, but introduced another one. After a while (~1-8 hours, randomly and not heat related) It would crash with a RED screen and guru. When I would turn it off, wait 15-30 secs and back on, the screen would immediately be dark red, then it would boot ok. Randomly it would show the DKB RAM, other times it would not. I opened up the machine and rechecked all connections, and the power lead. Removed it and reconnected it. Seemed to work for a bit then back to the same thing. WTF! :double  :help:  :censored: :censored: :censored:
