Hi everyone,
Was given a Amiga 1200 from a friend. I opened her up and found that it has a DKB1202 with a 4mb memory module installed.

I tried to find some info on this and could only find a that it supports 8MB and a FPU 68882 @ 40 MH.
My question is what needs to be done to install the FPU? Just click it in a go?

I noticed that there is a socket for a oscillator. Do I need to add one? If so does the mhz need to match the FPU speed?
Sorry for the noob questions but I have never had one of these or any experience with one.

hi,

can you post a picture of what you actually have?

usually it is a case of popping in an fpu and away you go, but what fpu package you have and if you need a crystal (I would think you need one the same speed as your fpu from your description) i don't know without seeing the wee beastie:)

Here you go

cool so you need a 68882 and a crystal at a matching speed upto 40mhz, you can run lower (25mhz are easy to find)

the 68882 fpu needs to be in a plcc package, the oscilator has to be in a 14 pin dil package.

What do you plan on using the FPU for?

I wear mine like a badge of coolness!

Seriously bdb has a point, not a lot of stuff on a standard A1200 will use an FPU it's more the internal FPU in 040's and 060's that is used on 3D software.

However there are update picture libraries and such that use FPU as well as the Web browser IBrowse. (Not that web browsing is much fun on an A1200/020) or indeed any Amiga

Back to your card, FPU just fits into the Socket, Amigakit sell them and they can be jumpered to the same speed as the A1200 or you can add a crystal at the FPU's own speed, I know the Gold type FPU PGA can be overclocked but I'm not sure how well PLCC take to overclocking.

There will be a jumper setting to tell the board to use the crystal and not the internal clock so look out for that.

Here's some more info on your Ram board, it's got a nice little feature (with software) you can set the board to limit Ram to 5.5mb when PCMCIA is in use thus making it PCMCIA friendly.

All the best,

Steve.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I am not really planning on running anything special on this but just thought it would be good to get the most out of my AMI as possible.
Considering the cost of the FPU's is so cheap I thought this would be a good little upgrade.

Might just get one for ****s and giggles
I found these two that are around $10 landed

For the first one in China is this a 40Mhz one?

For this particular board you must have a matching crystal for the FPU. There is no option to use it at the onboard 020 clock.
