Do certain whdload installs only work when registered?

My key is fine I was making the card up for someone else. I wanted to know if some games don't work without one. Any idea how many are like this and how they are decided? Is there a list of none working slaves for unregistered users?

Sometimes the creator of the slave is kind enough to mention it in the readme. Again the Civilization slave is an example.
