I'm kind of indifferent.
I've only got a HDTV and a Blu-Ray player recently, so never experienced it before.
However, due to sight issues, although I do notice the difference between HD and a decent SD video, the effect is kind of wasted on me.

HD is nice, but not so much better for me....
I have a standard def projector....
I still much prefer the Standard Def 100" projected movie to the HD 42" LCD....

Yes, the quality isn't as nice, but after the first few minutes watching, I get pulled in and don't notice anymore...

there's an incredible difference between cinematic film even from the 20s or 30s and things originally recorded on tape for tv broadcast however......

Oh that is true. If the stock is inherently "low res", then there's no point really.

It's like Father Goose with the fun removed, but it's got Humphrey Bogart in it so it's highly acclaimed.

That may be, although I liked it:) point was they really went to town on the restoration and ended up with a really amazing HD transfer.

I just wish they'd do that with some of the classic kung-fu movies out there (the brilliant, yet slightly cheesy stuff from the 60's and 70's :)). I've got quite a few martial arts type movies on Blu-ray, but most of them are more recent releases.

if i can watch black and white bilco "phil silvers" encoded to my pc as a low bit rate avi to save space. and the bilko's had been recorded on vhs years ago.. then i can watch anything..
i dont need HD.

actually the biggest thing that gets to me is a hiss in the sound or low audio quality.
