Hi,

I just bought an a570 and after browsing some demo and pd cd's I tried Defender of the Crown.

There I got the message that my memory might not be enough to play the game.

I use an amiga 500 with 512kb trapdoor fast ram and the a570 has another 2mb fast ram.

I only have 512kb chip ram, do I require 1mb chip ram for playing cdtv titles ?

Is the a570 using some of my chip ram to buffer, if so can this be adapted ?

Many thanks and happy holidays!

Hi.
Yes 1 MB chip is required for CDTV stuff, and might still not be enough in some cases.
With less RAM, you can still use CD as a media but most likely not launch programs made for the CDTV.

You need to upgrade Agnus with a 1 MB CHIP compatible version, or better use a MegaCHIP or similar to go to 2MB Chip with super fat Agnus and match an upgraded A500Plus.

I believe I allready have a fat agnus that can support 1MB.
The MegaChip way of upgrading looks nice without cutting but more expensive.

Thanks for the help and enjoy the holiday!

I just opened up my amiga 500... looks like it has an a500+ mother board and an agnus 8375 5091 20.

Can this agnus be used with a 2MB MegaChip ? I read somewhere there are also agnus 8375 that suport only 2MB 🤨

Indeed, that's a 2 MB Agnus, and it seems you have an A500+ here, so how come you have 512 KB CHIP. http://obligement.free.fr/articles/chipsetamiga.php
You should have 1024 KB onboard.

Or maybe you have one of those later A500 which came with an A500Plus mobo. In that case you could have 1024 KB by soldering the chips on the empty space of the mobo.

If you want to put that chip on the Megichip style expansion, you need to check as there are several of them, and not all Agnus can go on them. For instance, i have in my A2000 one which can only use 318069-10 or -11. Perhaps the RAMESES expansion can use any type.

Yes I have a500 with the 8a.1 board. I attached a photo of the board. It currently has 512KB of chip ram.

I checked the specs for RAMESES and it does not support the rev 8.1 motherboard :(

So if I add another 512KB to the board it will have 1MB of chip ram, but how do I get at 2MB ?

Thanks! will do some more reading about this....

I would have preferred a less invasive manner of upgrading... :)
