Hey everyone,

I got my Dual CF Adapter to work today! The problem I'm having is the second CF card is not mounting automatically. I can boot from the first slot then I have to manually mount the second card using the Mounter application. I already checked the settings in HDToolBox and the card is set to auto-mount.

Is there a way to execute this process automatically from the User-Startup?

Thanks everyone. :)

Only using IDEfix97. Instead the CD-ROM (don't let the package look for one!), add "IDEfix_path/LoadIDE" very early in the startup-sequence and problems are solved!:)

I'm still a little confused. I tried installing IDEFix97 yesterday and the system wouldn't even boot to Workbench. Fortunately, I made a backup of the system partition before installation so I was able to easily recover the system. I am currently running off the on-board IDE controller. Maybe I'll try it from the Buddha to see if it works any better.

Any other ideas in the meantime?

Thanks!

Heather

I'm confused!

For IDEFix97 Software to work, you need the IDEFix97 hardware in the Amiga.

Also, with the IDEFix97 hardware in the Amiga, you then install the IDEFix97 software & then it never boots again.

I've seen it too & was never able to resolve it.

Is there any need for both CF slots to be Auto mount anyway? - So long as they both mount, it's win-win.
You might be able to have a script or something in your WB Startup drawer to make it semi Auto. ;)

I didn't think you needed the IDE Fix '97 hardware to use the software on a single IDE port. I thought the software just allowed you to use more device types and larger hard drives even without the hardware.

I would love to do a semi-automatic mount of the second CF card but I don't know how to script the Mounter application. :(

@Heather

to solve your problems.

edit the files to the following

S:startup-sequence
Code:
;bootidefix

S:user-startup
Code:
;beginactivatecrossdos

you will still be able to use the full capability of IDEFix, but some issues reside with IDEFix and setpatch that keep causing it to crash.

You could be right Heather RE using on the defualt single header. I have used IDEFix97 H/W without S/W installed but was limited to only addressing the two devices on the Primary header only. Once I'd installed the IDEFix97 S/W, the Amiga never booted again.

At the time I expecienced this whilst laughing (I'm a SCSI man ;) ) I wasn't aware of the solution Zetr0 points out above.

Hope it helps for you.

@ Zetr0

So basically chap, you're saying IDEFix97 is pretty much Fubar all round?

IDEFix97 package can be confused by the CF timings and then the Amiga don't boot.

That's why I asked for not let it install itself, and just adding the line on the Startup-sequence.

IDEFix installer is a pile of absolute .... (insert expletive here)!

Using the installer I would suggest to go through with (intermediate mode), you can okay most things but

1. do not let it write to the S:startup-sequence
2. do not let it write to the S:User-Startup

My belief is that the reason it keeps crashing is down to two things

1. the new scsi.device thats installed (in combination with)
2. old setptach having a fit (crash) over it when its not asserted correctly.

I would suggest that one removes from the "startup-sequence" and "user-startup" anything to do with IDEFix install.

you could look for a compatible setpatch ( I would suggest setpatch - version 43.6b hit me up on PM if you cannot find it)

Although insofar as mounting drives - If both CF cards are the same size you can simply copy the mount list entry for DH0 and just call it DH1 in the mountlists file

you should find mountlists in DEVS:

Hhaha you expressed it quite nice Charlie! Well this is the Amiga spirit!

is SkydivinGirl using idefix ??

I`d go with wot zetro suggested about new scsi device

I had similar problem with my dual cf card reader, with wb3.1 it would see the 2nd card till I been in hdtools but when i installed wb3.5 both drives showed up. Now I did`t do enough testing to find the root of the problem but best guess is scsi device

Some wonderful ideas here everyone! I'll give a few things a try and let you know how they turn out. :)

I have a version of IDE Fix installed that came with the Buddha Flash Phoenix Edition card that I have installed.

....& why I shove SCSI where ever I can. If it's an Amiga, it's gotta have SCSI. - IDE suX!

It's all fun however you look at it. :D
