Guys & Gals,

I am looking for some inspiration... I have an ever increasing amount of components/ics etc for my hackery projects and wondered how other people are keeping their similar things organised. please feel free to offer suggestions/tips or photos of your workbench/storage area.

At the moment I have 3 Treston?? component storage boxes but these are expensive and am sure there must be cheaper, more efficient means of storage. I saw some fella who used empty match boxes to store small SMD components and had taped them together to create a huge wall of storage, great idea I thought.

I had about the same problem, I decided to go for old video boxes. Rip of the paperwork, label them so you now difference from top and bottom and voila they are almost for free in second hand stores.

You can get clear boxes as well so that you can see what's inside them without having to open them

I have one of those rack transparent things, plus transparent cans for screws & the like and old plastic ice cube makers for resistors and discrete parts.

If you're anywhere near a clas Ohlsen (Swedish) shop, they have loads of storage boxes for pretty reasonable money. I bought a similar drawer unit to Zetro's one from maplin for about 20 squids.

Old VHS cases though, that's a brill idea, I'm going to use that.

Matchboxes is a good idea too, if you're gentle with it. Plus you get those big cooks matchboxes, so could make a homemade version of the maplin/aldi/lidl one.

Awesome  thanks for the tips guys, those cabinets from Amazon are perfect price wise and the idea for re-using VHS boxes is great
