External IDE controller for Amiga 500/500+.

Please be aware that Matthias also wrote a new driver. His design is _based_ on previous designs, not a copy.

In case Matthias has released his work to the public, don't remember the license. It is released for non-commercial use, though.

Cheers,
McT

I was suggesting creating a new pcb from scratch, free for all to use without limiting licence. Matthias is free to licence his work however he wants, however for me it's limited as not worth anyone using the designs with those limits if a person can only build one for themselves. It doesn't take into account the time someone spends actually building the board. Parts are only one cost of building some thing.

And look at the original schematic and Matthias board, they are more than just "based" on, they are nearly identical, the pcb maybe laid out differently but the actual schematic is near identical

Thanks for contributing to this thread, but you should also be aware of the fact that not every driver is based_on_your_buddy's work, so you're making assumptions, and I don't have to tell you what assumptions are like..
Yesterday was the first time that I discovered your buddy's files, thanks to him making a post in the other thread.
But thanks anyway for bursting my bubble, guess that my plans for getting filthy rich from this project are straight out of the window.:p

Looks like I've been grossly misunderstood :) .

Matthias' design isn't special. It's based on old designs that have been on the aminet for ages.

He isn't my buddy btw ;) .

The special thing about his design is the driver.

He has released his stuff for free use and you may even sell his stuff - just not as a company or an individual making significant profit.

In the past he has actively helped others designing new stuff. He really is the community developer.

Thanks,
McT

Also the driver, by the looks of it is also based on the original design

Yes it is.
Sorry if I've been misunderstood - the complete design including driver is based on previously available designs.

isnt that the point of open source ?? adjust, improve, pass it on for non profit ?? that's how it looks to me and he's also offering to help anyone to build their own and update the driver (even sell them PCB at cost).
to me that's what this community needs.

It is the point, and am all for open source, and people making a "profit". and to be fair no-one is going to retire on making a few of theses board, however Matthias is free to choose whatever licence he likes.

I have rebuilt the board based on original schematics, and is free for all to use sell steel......(under GPL licence):

The PCB is a little rough (let the autoroutes have a go!!) but ill fix this tonight. if anyone wants these files ill happily email them out. This can be used to make and sell for a profit!!
