I am just giving a go at CF1 thanks to the thread.

From Phase 2 in Mission 5 things get really serious!!

Jools and Jops are already RIP

How many missions are there for CF1 and CF2?

There are 24 missions/70-odd phases in CF1. Amiga Power did a Cannon Fodder guide which is really useful....

Mission 8 is one of the best (love the jungle!) :)

I finished CF2 (again) a year or so ago on an Amiga 2000... no way as good as CF1 though... the Alien levels are just weird.

Come on chaps! Cannon Fodder is one of the best Amiga games! :D
I finished it within a few months back when I was a teen. I loved it!

I haven't played it for about a year (and not really interested in finishing it again), but I do remember the hardest level being one of the ice ones with the HUGE mass of water. Yes, extremely difficult phase, but once you're past it you're past it and it doesn't get any harder/more frustrating than that.

The difficulty curve does increase suddenly, but once you adjust to that level of play (and if you're capable) the rest of the game is certainly within the players grasp.

Some people just won't be good enough though, and that's a fact (not meaning to insult anyone).

Phase 3 of Mission 7, one soldier to go and i die with no recruits left!!NOOOOOO!!
i'm too old for this ****...

I wouldn't expect anyone to be able to complete the game without doing saves (that would be near impossible without A LOT of practice). You need to save each mission, and if you think you can do the last mission better with less loss of recruits then go back...re-load the mission, do it better and then save over it again. That's how I did it and that's how I'd do it again - if I ever get the urge that is.

I feel your pain, I can't tell you how many times I got to the end of Mission 8 Phase 3 with just one or two enemies left. Bloody infuriating!

OK we have a new contender for stupidest level - Mission 9, phase 1. Again, why make a level so hard that you can't beat it in 20 tries. It's just ridiculous, no game should be that hard. I've given up for the evening again. God I hate this game!

Well done for getting past mission 8. I'm still on it. Can usually get past 8.1 with out too much frustration, but 8.2 is just an absolute joke. Not looking forward to 8.3 at all - if I ever get there. I always blow myself up trying to fire at the ring of enemy grunts surrounding the turret at the end.

See - for entertainment with Cannon Fodder I just have to read this thread - much more fun (and safer for my health) than playing, it appears ;-)

I switched to Jim Power last night, but my frustration only got worse, so i switched it off, to avoid hurting my precious miggy.:censored:
Darn, even Bioshock 1999 mode looks easier than these games

Finally got past Mission 9. You only have 1 soldier for both phases. The first phase is really difficult, I think it took about 40 goes! Only about 10 for the second phase. Both have lots of missile turrets so there's a lot of luck involved as to how trigger happy they are. Getting shot from off the screen is the most frustrating thing!

Not looking forward to mission 10 - 5 phases and only 65 men left :(

Productive day - Mission 10 done too :) This is a real hard one as there are 5 phases. The first four aren't too bad, but the last phase gives you 6 men for each try, and you lose most of them as soon as the phase starts because there's a turret right next to you. I lost all my men on the first attempt, and then about 20 the second attempt, mostly on this level. I now only have about 30 left for Mission 11, so I may have to go back and redo 10 with less casualties.

Sorry this is turning in to my Cannon Fodder blog

Yeah but this way we get to celebrate with you when you conquer the game

(Edit: Of course that also means the thread will have to be removed from "Rant" - since it'll, erm, not be one, then <ahem>)

It seems I'm not alone in love-hating this game :D

After a while, the frustration levels were so great that I found myself in danger of taking a lump hammer to my little A600, so I decided I’d best switch it off and rekindle my affections for Alien Breed and Sensible Soccer instead. Far more satisfying…

If you ask me, Alien Breed is just as frustrating and impossible as CF! :wooha:

I finished both aliens with a friend, that was a hell but very satisfying hell.

Managed to complete Mission 11 today. My problem now is that I don't have too many men left (about 30) so I keep having to restart unless I get through the first couple of phases unscathed. Mission 11 is great, pretty hard but you get to use a tank and fly a helicopter :)

I fear this may be my last update as Mission 12 has SIX phases! What were they thinking?! I can't see my completing that with 30 men left :(

I had a quick go at Mission 12 again today. I can do Phase 1 easily enough now, but haven't got past phase 2 yet. As above the problem is I only have 30 men, so if I die more than a couple of times per phase there's no point carrying on.

So a redo of 11 is on the cards, or might this be the end of the quest (not bad considering you were giving up at 8 before!) ? :-)

To be honest I'm not sure I can do any better on Mission 11. The killer is the last phase - you get 6 men, most of which get blown up before you get a chance to do anything. So it's easy to lose 15+ on that one phase.

The good thing about mission 12 is that you only get 2 men per phase, so I have roughly 2 or 3 chances on each phase. But again there's little point beating the mission with no men left. I think to finish this game you really need to go back and redo the first 5 or so missions without losing any men at all, so you have 100+ at this stage.
