Dear Amibay members,

Amibay has been a very long and complicated journey for me. Started back in 2007 as an idea between friends to create a new place to trade retro hardware and software, free from the fees of commercial trading sites.

I'm happy to have been a central part of Amibay since it's inception. Working in the background, building and developing Amibay over the years, keeping it alive though personal funding in the early years before we introduced donations, and the continued development and maintenence of both the site and server.

Over time we have seen the site grow in popularity to the large number of members we now have. We did have some difficult times over the years, but the site weathered them and continued.

In the last few years due to limited funding we did start to struggle a bit, only able to afford to keep an aging server running, which caused a lot of headaches though site slowdowns and connection issues. We were also stuck for some time with an aging and unsupported forum platform. We also lost many of our staff over time, making it harder to manage everything.

Last year I devoted much of my holiday time in an attempt to finally fix these issues and bring the site up to date for the future. We secured a new server and I spend time upgrading the site to a new version of vBulletin. Sadly we then discovered the new software was not fit for purpose and introduced many issues. I apologise for putting you all though that as we hadn't quite realised how bad the upgrade would be.

Due to personal circumstances in terms of my own health, family bereavements and finances I could not devote much time to Amibay as I once had. The site did suffer because of this. Therefore I spent some time last year searching for new staff members to take on the administration and development of the site. Thankfully we found Comraider, who volunteered to personally fund the purchase of the new forum software, Xenforo, which Amibay is now running on, and to perform the migration to this new platform. With this now complete it allows Amibay to again move forward.

As I mentioned I no longer have much time to devote to helping out with the running of Amibay. And as I have now been removed from all staff roles within Amibay I no longer feel a part of the site and would therefore like to say, with some sadness as this project did always mean quite a lot to me, a fond farewell to all the Amibay members who have enjoyed and supported the site over the past 15 years. Thank you for the support you gave.

Take care,

Dave.

ps. I wish the new Amibay staff good luck in taking the site forward.

I will drop in occassionally to trade or post, but it won't be often. If anyone wishes to contact me please do so via classicamiga.com

You will be Missed bud even if most of us were never really aware of all you did for us, as one of those that was not really interested in how the site was run just that it ran I want to say thanks and good luck with whatever you turn your hand to next

You will be missed dear friend, thankyou for all your sterling service over the years, actually Amibay is a testament and a legacy to be proud of Dave, best wishes to you and your family in the years ahead

Thanks for all you've done, Amibay has been the one forum I've been checking on and off and still remain active on. I welcome the future but hope it will stay true to the colours you and others originally gave it.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear this Harrison, I felt you maintained the site well up until the last difficult 2 years. Any dealings and private messages with you have always been met with sincerity.

The death of Johnim back in April 2020 was also a cruel blow for Amibay.

I sincerely wish you well for the future

Thank you @Harrison for all of your work to help bring about what AmiBay has blossomed into. Like you said, it's a pity that life throws the unexpected at us and we get pulled away from some things. The mark of a good community is that it keeps moving forward, and thanks to the contributions of folks like you, we're well suited for the future. :check:

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Much appreciated.

The one wish after so many years working on Amibay is to see the site continue and provide a free and trusted platform to trade. You are in safe hands with Comraider. Let's look forward to another 15 years.
