As I am getting back into the Amiga I wanted to ask some questions about this floppy disk emulator. Its going to be fitted to my A500 for now as i will use this machine mostly for games.

The questions i have are follows

Do the games load quicker or at normal speed like a real floppy drive ?

What happens if your using the on screen selector to pick the disks and in the middle of the game they ask for disk 2 and higher ?

Could I use an external drive to load in other stuff from disk and to save off game data ?

thanks for your time.

Hi Mate! :)

Do the games load quicker or at normal speed like a real floppy drive ?

As far as I can tell its the same speed, I don't think there is a turbo mode but someone can correct me if I am wrong.

The on screen selector requires a reboot so cannot be used to change disks mid game, you would need to use the buttons on the HxC and LCD screen to change disks. You can use without the LCD screen and use the 'next' button to change disk 1-2-3-4 etc, but I've found it a little unreliable and sometimes reboots back to the selector menu

(Could be my poor soldering though)

I don't see why not, but I haven't tried as I have no external FDD's

You can use blank ADF's though and use the HxC's write feature

thanks for your time.

You're welcome

Humm, from my experience with the HxC Floppy emulator, speed is the same as a standard floppy drive.
For multiple disk games you have slots for pre-mount all the disks and in game when asked just press the buttons on the floppy emulator to change disks foward or backward.
Never used an external drive but it should be no problem afaik. :)

has any of you tried the USB version of it and if so is it the same or better/worse ?

No sorry I've only had the RevB & now C SD versions. Only difference between these two were the latter has the selector menu and write support.

I know the earlier ones can have the write support added but I don't know about the selector.

Steve.

why i am asking is that i didnt like having the thing hanging out of my amiga as i have 3 very small kids that like to see whats going on on my desk and if i fit it in i can have teh function of swapping the disks. Loads to think about and i might spend the extra to get it boxed all ready.
