GBA1000 rev4 Build Log

finally bit the bullet and ordered the last of my bits off of mouser, had to jiggle os62's list a bit to replace all the out of stock parts with same from other mfg, but that was a simple enough. that should come next week and I can start with all the little tiny smt resistors :( fun not lol! I dont evne like SOIC size, so 1206 etc will be not fun.

Time to build an A1000-RJ10 to Amiga 2k or 3k keyboard adapter (depending on what I can get nicer, a 2k or 3k keyboard..)

I'm still looking for suggestions for the RAM chips. Kessler item# from the GBA1000 manual's part list doesn't seem to offer any specifications (http://www.kessler-electronic.de/Ha.../High_Speed_SRAMs/614008-10J_i277_14550_0.htm )

Here's a few suggestions:
http://gb.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=CY7C1049

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/br...3R0ECQLCIQZOXQ?N=0&Ntk=gensearch&Ntt=CY7C1049

Of course the CY7C1049DV33-10VXI would be the most attractive option for me, being the most inexpensive one of the lot :)
However, is this ok for the GBA1000?

RAM error?

RAM error?

Hello

I finished my GBA1000 board today. After some jumper juggling it seems to boot now.

After every boot I get the Expansion Board Diagnostic screen :-(
Board #1 2092 / 6 Working
Board #2 5012 / 13 Defective

After looking up 5012 I realized that the Manufacturer is Georg Braun :-)

Looking at other peoples screenshots from sysinfo etc I'm guessing my problem is the 8MB RAM expansion. Also booting into Workbench 1.3 tells me that I have 2MB CHIP RAM and 0 MB FAST RAM....

Looking at the schematic it seems to me that the 8MB RAM expansion consists of IC57 LSL1024, IC53-IC56 GAL20V8 and 16x RAM chips. I tried reprogramming the 4 GALs but to no avail... I can't reprogram the LSL1024 since I lack an adapter.
I'm guessing the IC57 is mainly for auto-configuring the board, and that seems to work(?) Marking a board as being defective is something the KickROM does I assume, but how does it perform a memory test? Is it just one of my RAM chips that is defective?

I guess my real question is does anybody know how to debug this?
Can the RAM chips be desoldered in groups of 4(?) until the complaining stops?

did you run the flash tool to configure it? I think you have to find someone to burn the lsi1024 for you ( I got to get that done too)

No!

All the GALs + LSi1024 are preprogrammed by Kipper (I ASSUME...)

I was under the impression that the only thing that could be programmed onboard is the 1MB flash... right?

I have failed to understand what the 1MB flash thing is for... :( but maybe I should try and flash it and see what happens....

I didnt get my gals/lsi from him, so I have to program them myself. I did not realise he programmed them all (maybe the gals) but I doubt he programmed the LSI (I dont remember seeing info about that).

the flash is for custom kickstart iirc.

Well, my GBA1000 is almost finished!
I have ordered the two power 4 pin connectors and the 44pin ide one.

What I need now?

- Two kits of video hybrid modules from Kipper2k. I hope he will receive the pcbs very soon!

- A confirmation about the cpu oscillator:
Actually, I have a 50MHz oscillator. If I have well understood, and if I want to use it,
I have to solder R122. R135 and IC78 aren't not be soldered. Am I right?!

Well, my GBA1000 is almost finished!

Nice!

I'm still in the phase of collecting all the parts...:picard But need some help regarding the partslist for the GBA1000...got the majority of parts but some are still missing:thumbsdown:

What are the correct values for below items from the list?

L104
R135
R136
R137
RN5

As for the Quarz...1 should be 100 MHz for the CPU....what about the second one?

Are there any alternatives to the listed parts L90 and L100-L103? How should I search for them on the pages of different suppliers? Part number or?

Thanks in advance!

L104 = FB 105Ohm (as L1 for example)
R135 = 1,5 KOhm
R136 = 33R2 (33,2 Ohm)
R137 & R138 are not to be soldered, as RN5.
The IC11 quartz = 28,735MHz.

For the L90 & L100-L103, look here:
http://www.digikey.it/product-detail/it/FBMJ3216HS480NT/587-1771-1-ND/1147096

The 48Ohm filter is not needed only for L90 & L100-L103. It's used onto power supplies. You'll need it also for:
L17-L19, L25, L32, L37, L43, L57, L64, L67-L68, L79, L90, L94-L103.

I have debugged my GBA1000 ^^

- For my sound problem, I've reversed 2 resistors before amplifier (10K and 390R)
- For the IDE and my led always ON on my CF-adaptor, the pinout of the IDE 2,5" connector is not the same as in an A1200... You need a right angle fem/fem + a classic CF-Adaptor.

Thanks Tuxbar81!

In the partslist that was published for the Mouser projct purchase the filters used were 70 Ohm at 3000mA...are these then OK for the L17-L19, L25, L32, L37, L43, L57, L64, L67-L68, L79, L90, L94-L103?

How important it is to have the exact figures for the filters? Asking as a non-electrician...

To yamakakiche...

Which filters are you using on your GBA1000?

48Ohms and 150Ohms ordered on Mouser.

You ordered them on Mouser based on the project list that was published here (if I recall correctly those are 70 Ohms) or you looked for them by yourselve?

---------- Post added at 10:10 ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 ----------

48Ohms and 150Ohms ordered on Mouser.

They are selling them only in reels of 3000....:wooha:...don't need that many...

By any chance....do you have any left?

I looked for them by myself.

FB 150Ohms : ILB1206ER151V on Mouser
FB 48Ohms : FBMJ3216HS480NT on Mouser

I've some left but not for a complete card...

If I'm not asking to much...where did you use the 48 and where the 150Ohms ones? There are so many versions of which ones to use and where on the GBA1000 that I lost track....and also the original partslist is a little vague about this....
