GBA1000 rev4 Build Log

Jawd already exported the part list from Eagle 3.55, and it's pretty accurate, apart from a small number of missing values. (Page 1 of this thread)
Don't forget the rev 4 has a couple more IC's, 78 and 80.

just got some 100mhz oscillators for the 50mhz cpu.

I've started the soldering job, not all small birdfeed parts are here yet, but still.
A start is a start :)

You are making it yourself a lot harder by putting the sockets in before finishing all the SMD parts!
I would start by doing all SMD components on the topside, then do all SMD parts on the bottom, and last do all throughhole components. The throughhole components are the easiest to mount.

I don't put some socket for this reason, too close at some smd parts.
The ones I put don't make it difficult solder near smd components.
Thanks for advice.

:)

What do you think about not using DIL sockets for smaller DIL ICs? Of course is good to have GALs in the sockets, but 74xx series is good to have directly soldered, isn't it?

You save about 10 euro (perhaps less) but if tomorrow one of this ic go out of order, you have to desolder the ic broken and resolder another one.
My opinion is socket all i can.

I was not thinking about any savings, my idea was rather to have more proof connection between ICs and pcb (you know: oxidation, loosen socket, etc). But you are right - everybody is using the sockets.

Hand soldered, only thing available was a conical (1mm) tip. Much more birdfeed is on the board now, but haven't taken pictures yet...

for those looking for 100mhz full can osc, for 50mhz cpu

look on ebay for "New Leftover CTS 100.0 Mhz Crystal Oscillator Amiga Mac PC Full Can Silver 3/4"

Why? Wouldn't it be better if I buy the same ones as you did? 5 of them for about the same price as that person sells one for right? :)

Nice to have some spare in case a leg breaks during installation

Those are the right ones right?

Who is gouging people for that crystal... $35 for shipping, i wouldn't buy one if it was the last place available!!!

I'll see if i can find some at a proper price
