It is a great idea. I connected my accounts earlier, but GOG can't currently connect to Steam to obtain the game list. It's now saying due to extremely high demand it could take a few days.

Our legal agreements are changing
We are making some changes to our Privacy Policy and our User Agreement, the documents that govern our relationship with you.
We’re introducing an extra section to our Privacy Policy, and a small addition to the GOG User Agreement, to make sure that our new GOG Connect program is fully covered. Here is an informal summary of what’s new:
1. Privacy Policy: For you to use our GOG Connect service we will need to access your Steam Data. There are some legal rules that Valve requires us to follow regarding this—you’ll find more info in the full Privacy Policy on our site.
2. User Agreement: Our optional GOG Connect service is subject to Valve legal rules—please follow them. Check out the GOG Connect section of our Privacy Policy for more info.
You can read through the Privacy Policy and User Agreement here. If you have any concerns or do not agree to these changes, please contact our customer support team.

Well... That was disappointing.

[h=2]NO ELIGIBLE GAMES FOUND[/h]Stay tuned for more games joining GOG Connect.

I also set this up the other day (after seeing the original link). It only found 2 eligible games and 1 of them I didn't think I had which was a bit of a bonus.

It found 12 for me. But strangely said some of the other current ones I have in Steam which are part of the current list couldn't be linked. Maybe those are different Steam versions.

Sounds like an interesting idea, though its not clear to me whether they permanently store the Steam info on GoG or not (funnily enough they do have that question in the FAQ but don't give an answer to it).

Also I don't understand why those games are only offered in a limited time frame, why can't make the offer permanent? Or do they think they would loose sales otherwise, because I strongly doubt that many people would buy the same game twice.

It's a good marketing ploy. Many people using Steam but haven't really used GOG much. The advantages of the latter are the DRM free standalone installers, but also the supporting content downloads. This could entice people to use it more, or to come back. Not sure what Steam is gaining from this.

As for making it a limited time offer. It makes people log into their accounts often to check.
