Hi folks,

I'm trying to back up the old Data HDD from my Windows XP PC, I'm using an external USB2 caddy and on my main PC(Win7) and Netbook(Win8) I can't access the data, says the drive is offline and invalid. I cannot validate only create a new empty space which obviously I don't want to do.

My Media center is still on XP and the drive is picked up on there which is a relief however it's freezing up whilst copying files and I have to start over every time, also USB2 does not work on this PC (it's always had this fault) so I'm stuck with painful slow USB1.1 transfers...

Is there a file manager (free) that I can use that has a resume feature for the transfers? After I reset the USB caddy I can start again, but after some time it stops responding again. Assume HDD is on it's last legs, it's very old and has had very heavy use!

Most of the data was already backed up some time ago, just a few last bits I want to get off it, nothing really important so no big loss if I can't - I can just download them again :) (Might be hard to find some stuff tho!)

Cheers,

Steve.

+1 teracopy. Really is the fastest out there for big files.

I've been using Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier, particularly for CDs/DVDs which are becoming difficult to read.

+1 for Total Commander

For long time I'm a happy owner of this simple, but strong, app

Other than that, how about Directory Opus (pc version!), it even show .info files (Amiga icons!).
