hi scoobyatgb what os are you using its best to used xp or win7 with xpmode
if you use either when the message comes up remove the 5v(red) cable from gotek then put it back on this will reset it and you shold be able to carry on

Thanks for that I have now done it I got a new usb flasher and it worked first time

now that is a great mod
If you want to install the drive in the case then that looks like the better option instead of chopping up the original floppy slot like I did. Both methods would only need a replacement case top should you want to restore the 600 back to an original state so nothing wrong with making these types of alterations in my view

I bought one of these to mess around with and I'm struggling to get it to work with my drive. I get a "Windows can't format this disk" message.
It also takes ages to recognise that a disk has been inserted.
I'll have to test it with different makes of drive before I give it a pos/neg review.
Yeah, I saw that, unfortunately I have none of those drives to test it with.
Argh. My Gotek isn't acknowledged in the STMFlash software at all.
I've got a USB > Serial cable and one of those mini UART - (Both work fine on loopback and with other devices.) Same result on both.
I get either ""No response from the target, the Boot loader can not be started" , or "Unrecognized Device."
If I send 0x7F through Realterm, it returns 79 7F.
The device otherwise works as normal without the programming mode.
All my pin headers are good (re-soldered them just in case) I've tried re-setting, Win 7, XP mode, VMWare XP.
I've tried almost all the solutions I can find online, including baud rate, pulling pins out slightly, resetting, using the command line instead. Nada!
Anything else at all in the world I can try?!

I know that you said you tried changing the baud rate but for me it only works on a painfully slow rate. Try the lowest rate and see if you can get to the next step.

I tried the lowest baud rate but it's a no-go. The program just freezes up and crashes or displays the error. Which OS did you use?

Windows 7. I also set the flash util to XP compatability mode although I doubt that was a factor.

I had the same problem but I was using XP I just used the reset pins and then it saw
the gotek and reflashing went well..

I think there's something more to it with the Gotek I bought. The reset pins work OK, and I can issue commands in Hex via Realterm similar to here:

I've ordered another so will wait a couple of weeks to see what the new one behaves like. Very frustrating they're not readily available in the UK :-(

Hi John I've used both Win7 with XP Mode, XP, VMWare XP, all identical results.
I've reset it many times but the problem is the same. As mentioned above I've managed to communicate the STM chip directly using hex commands, so it is establishing a connection of sorts but I am getting the feeling that maybe I have some minor revision that is not covered in the Flash loader software. Until I get my other version I dunno what else I can try unless anyone fancies trying my Gotek (with pins already soldered)?

Perhaps it's worth opening it up and checking the board is the same as the one everyone else has. If you post a picture here it might help.

I've found the Gotek units can be really stubborn even on XP - but dropping the baud rate to 19200 helps a lot. Still not a first-time-every-time thing, but only takes a handful of attempts at the lower baud rate, compared with sometimes dozens at the default of 115,200. The weird thing is, once it actually establishes connection it's fine - I don't get any dropouts or anything.
