It is always a problem with many younger drivers that have come up through the different GP series. They both clearly have the racing ability in terms of speed, but are only able to race full out and are not able to dial it back and consider race tactics or the ability to wait until a situation and chance is there.
And although Maldonado has won a race this year I think it is more circumstances rather than pure talent that got him there. For me I don't see him ever being one of the greats. He seems to aggressive and hot headed in the car, and never seems to realise it was ever his own fault.
But Grosjean has been showing he does have it, but he just lacks experience and awareness of everything going on around him. I don't think he will quite be one of the greats because they all clearly show something right from the start, but I think he could go on to do well in F1. That's if he hasn't banned himself from too many races!
BTW, what about the Hamilton rumours them? Moving to Mercedes? If this is true that would make Button number one at McLaren, and who would be his new team mate?
I think Kimi back at McLaren would be good. He doesn't seem happy where he currently is. However the Hamilton move is currently still just a rumour started by EJ!
@Harrison
I agree with you totally regarding Maldonado and Grosjean, I think Grosjean may well "grow up", but I'm not so sure Maldonado will, and, as you say, to him, it's always somebody else's fault.
Regarding Hamilton, I'll be disappointed if he leaves McLaren but, I'm sure he'd do well at Mercedes and it could give someone like Paul Di Resta a chance at a faster car.
Anyway, Formula One is quite boring these days, even if there are 5 previous world champions running in 2012.
Nothing like the 80's and early 90's.
I'm suprised that Nigel Mansell is not cited much. Is the Lion not liked in his own country? I thought a vast majority of members here is from the UK.
The guy is brillantly crazy!
