Hello AmiBay members,
I'm Jens from Germany. My first computer was a C64 which I obtained in early 1990. I didn't know much about computers at the time. I became fascinated with the Amiga shortly after that, realising that it's a much more potent machine. As PCs in the home gained a lot of momentum in the early 90s I was a bit disappointed with the Amiga not being improved. I waited until the release of AGA machines in late 92 and eventually bought an Amiga 4000/030 in April 1993, shortly after my 17th birthday. I was what you could call an evangelist, constantly trying to convince friends and classmates to buy a new Amiga or upgrade their existing one and I was quite successful with that. When Commodore went bust in 94 I decided that it was best to invest in the system asap as the market would most certainly decline. So if I wanted to have as much fun as possible, there was no time to be wasted. I bought a larger HDD, my first CD-ROM drive and a 3640 CPU card. After several further upgrade cycles I eventually ended up with an A4000 in an RBM tower, Cyberstorm PPC, CyberVision PPC, Delfina and some other things. When I started my computer science studies in 98 I used the Amiga alongside PCs for university projects, but over time I used the Amiga less and less. After an internship in the south of Britain in 2001/2002 I ended up almost only using the Windows Laptop and PC I owned at the time. The Amiga was fired up not more than twice a year. Then came 2005. I was a little short of money... and sold it all:/
Last year I bought a recapped A1200 on ebay, equipped it with an Indivision and an ACA 1233/55. I also own an A500, a CD32 and a C64C which I bought years ago but do not currently use.
The A1200 ist the system I'm "working" with. When I bought it, it was already equipped with an IDE/CF-adapter and a pre-installed ClassicWB. I recently bought OS 3.1.4 and started a new installation on a 32GB CF card, trying to remember or to re-learn what I once knew when I used my A4000 regularly. After I managed to get the system online with a PCMCIA-WiFi card the next thing I'll try to do is to get it to access my Diskstation via Samba.
That's me!
Cheers
Jens
