For sale I have 3 (Yes 3) x AGP A530 Sidecar Accelerators for the A500/A500+ (No, I did not rob the Amiga Museum!)
I have acquired these over several years but surely can not use them all, so aside from the one in my personal collection, these 3 are ready to go into the wild again.
I have done a fair amount of work to get these running at their maximum potential as detailed below, and all of them have been tested and verified as fully working.
All 3 are now identical and consist of :
Changed out the processor and FPU for full MC68030RC40 and MC68882RC40.
Replaced the rom chip with the very latest 4.15 GVP rom.
The full amount of memory possible - 8Mb (2 x 4Mb original GVP simms)
New SCSI connector cable.
SCSI hard drives removed, and fitted with a new AztecMonster SCSI to CF Card interface.
New 4Gb CF card fitted.
New (NOS) case.
I personally run mine on an A500+ which also has a 2mb chip ram upgrade. If you have such a setup, then you will finish up with 2Mb chip ram, 8Mb fast ram, an internal HDD (CF Card) and an 030 chip at 40 Mhz. This is an awesome setup for such a machine.
Also included is a full scan in PDF format of the original A530 User Manual and the FaaastPrep 2.0 partitioning software, together with a fresh copy of the installation disk and faaastprep 2.0 disk, and the user guide for the AztecMonster boards. All the necessary jumpers on the A530 and the AztecMonster boards are correctly set and terminated.
Points of note :
The power supplies are all tested and power the units perfectly, however, they are dated and I would strongly recommend to have the PSU recapped. I have done this with my own personal one to bring the power output back to its full original current.
The cases are NOS and nice and clean. However, the plastic is slightly brittle due to age; this means that the screw pillars inside the case that hold it to the chassis are vulnerable and can snap/break easily. For that reason, I have removed the original screws and supplied these with M3 nylon screws of 8mm in length. This is just enough to hold the covers in place as intended without stripping the screw threads. You can if you wish replace them with M3.5 screws of short length, but I advise caution; the screw threads will strip very easily. I recommend AGAINST using metal screws of any kind.
There is a small factory fitted fan inside the case which is slightly loud but not annoyingly so. These can be easily replaced with a modern 40mm fan which is much quieter (I’ve done this on my own A530).
Each unit has a 4Gb CF card fitted. This is a decent amount of storage without having to resort to exotic file systems and partitioning schemes. All are correctly recognised by Workbench 3.1, FaaastPrep 2.0 software (Supplied), HDToolbox etc. You can use a larger capacity CF card, but like most other Amigas, this will require the use of modified file systems and is an exercise left to the new owner.
The CF cards are different makes, but all work perfectly as described above.
All of the setup and testing I have done is with Kickstart Version 3.1, and this is recommended. My understanding is that they will work with earlier versions but I have not tested this.
Overall these units are in superb condition!
Price per unit is £375.00 as gift + postage. Due to the value of these units, I will only send them tracked & signed for (Confirmed as £13.14 for UK)
These will be ready for dispatch next week once I receive the necessary packaging materials I have sent for, and I will PM interested buyers with necessary information in due course.
Pics below (Ignore the one showing only 1 memory simm, I tested the units with both 1 and 2 simms fitted - all will come supplied with 2 x 4Mb simms) :
