Do people ever go to the gym or do exercise at home?

I remember Martin O Neil who is manager of Sunderland and he say going to the Gym is waste of time because when you build Muscles as they become stronger but if you stop going to the gym then Muscles in whatever is(Arms, legs or whatever) stay about 3 months then go down

I need to eat more as that my problem

I should be eating 2,500 or 3,000 Cals a day but it is hard to keep up somehow:(

High Cals foods such as Pizza(having once a while doesnt hurt ya), Steak, pasta and not sure about other :)

IF You got foods tips or whatever then let me know

ok a bit random, but what the hell.....

home, there is nothing i can do in a gym that i can't do at home.

but then again i never go for mass, just general fitness

I've been training in gymhouses, but now the situation is that I'm planning my own little gym inside the house basement :). Can't weasel myself out with excuses like "it's too far" or "don't feel like leaving anywhere just now"

EDIT: not a waste of time, you will feel more energetic when you exercise =)

I just play with my dogs, keep fit enough.
As for diet, well I don`t eat meat, but aint a very healthy eating vegeterian!

Gym 6 or 7 days a week for an hour each day.

Number of floors I climb on the Stair Master each week (the only thing I use): 2744.

If I had £8000 I'd buy my own Stairmaster at home but they are huge and take up a lot of space.

Diet wise, stick to three meals a day and limit treats/snacks best I can. About 10 years ago I was going on for 25 stone. Now 13 1/2.

Got a treadmill and multi-gym at home, never use it.... Try to, but there's way too many distractions and interuptions for me to ever do a meaningful exercise.

Going to a Gym works for me. My thinking when I get there is "I've taken the effort to go, so I might as well stay the Hour or 2 and put some effort in." Mobile switched off etc, no distractions, also, I pay for the privilage, if I don't use it, it's costing me a fortune for no good reason

i have used the wii fit :)

but i work at a wearhouse and chugging boxes around allday does me.

just my podge needs sorting

I do an hour cardio at the gym 7 days a week, all weight workouts I do at home. Just do what you are comfortable with and what actually will make you do it. It's a waste of time going to the gym if you feel uncomfortable lifting weights amongst all the bigger guys for example.

Gym everytime, I started going about 3 months ago to bulk up and lose weight. In my first month I lost 3 inches on the stomach and gained an inch on each arm :) Lot bigger muscle wise now, looking forward to being measured again in four weeks. I do have a full membership and a PT to help me :) But right now I do Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat are days I do weight lifting. Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri/Sat I always do a bit of cardio. I love it now, hard at first but you feel so much better afterwards.

Witcher1979: What Gym is it? Having Personal Trainer is good things to help ya and what even more better is that they be able tell what foods you should be eating....

Maybe I should go to the gym who have Personal Trainer(I know they are not cheap but it is worth it in the end) who be able to guide me on what training program and foods I should be having :)

I find I don`t need the gym, I do stretching and kata everyday and then once a week I go to the dojo for a three hour lesson, helps me keep fit and builds core muscle.

Building muscles requires protein. You can work out at home or at the gym but you need to keep it up for about 6 months to see a big gain... once you've got "on the ladder" getting bigger is very easy.

Holland & Barrett have a 2-4-1 offer at the moment on whey protein (low fat, zero carb protein) you can use to supplement your workouts.

As for loosing muscle... it takes almost as long to loose it as put it on. Once you've gained muscle it is MUCH easier to get it back that it was to get it in the first place (the so called muscle memory).

If you don't eat enough calories to cover your daily needs your body WILL burn your newly created muscle as energy. In that situation you can go for Weight Gainer supplements instead of Whey protein (I always had the other problem... eating too many calories and not enough protein).

You don't even need weights at first, or a gym membership. Press ups, Sit Ups. Squats. 10's of exercises all using your own body weight will do. If you want to do your arms... Tricep excercises are the most important. Just try sitting at the bottom of the stairs... put your legs straight out so you're on your heels. Hands behind you one step up, close togther and lower yourself up and down a step... that should really be hard at first...

Good luck.

About 10 years ago I was going on for 25 stone. Now 13 1/2.
Congrats. 2 years ago I was 27 stone and now I'm 12! I was lower but I've gained a lot through muscle.

I am 5FT 7.
I am 8 and Half Stones, My Bodyfat is 10%.

I need eat more to get my Weight to 10 Stones or 10 and Half Stone somehow!

We have a gym at work, I go 5 days a week in my lunch break, still failing to hold back middle age spread but that's prolly the booze at the weekend.... gotta live a little!

I use a kinetika gym m8. We have a family pass, £60 a month for 6 off us to have unlimited gym usage, all the clubs like karate and body pump etc, also includes unlimited pool axxs.

Alexh is 100% right about the food, the food is actually more important then doing the exercise, if you don't get the right amount you won't see any gains. I am still working on my own diet but I am getting nice gains so I can't be far off right now. I have been taking crepure creatine mono though, that helps as well.

Once you start, get chatting to the big guys who work out, they will give you great advice as well on diets etc.

Think about something like this :

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=427&prodid=874&cid=199&sid=0

4kg is £28 in the buy1-get-1-4-1p sale (Get a hand blender from Tesco for £1 to mix it)

LOADS of protein your body needs to make muscles + 320 calories per 1/2 pint glass means that you're not going to be burning your newly created muscles for energy.

I like lots of lean meat for my meals. A George Foreman grill was the best buy I ever made. Stick on steaks and chicken fillets and grilled to perfection in minutes!

Congrats. 2 years ago I was 27 stone and now I'm 12! I was lower but I've gained a lot through muscle.

:wooha: Congrats too! I'm trying to get myself down to 12 this year :)

Didn't escape scot free with weight loss, ended up having a full tummy tuck with all the excess skin being removed. Not pleasant but the loose skin was actually hurting when I was at the gym!

It's an in store offer, buy one get one for 1p.

Dunno about online.
