Gym or Exercise at home?

Think about something like this :

http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pag...&cid=199&sid=0

4kg is £28 in the buy1-get-1-4-1p sale (Get a hand blender from Tesco for £1 to mix it)

LOADS of protein your body needs to make muscles + 320 calories per 1/2 pint glass means that you're not going to be burning your newly created muscles for energy.

I like lots of lean meat for my meals. A George Foreman grill was the best buy I ever made. Stick on steaks and chicken fillets and grilled to perfection in minutes!

chicken fillets or Chicken breast is very good
steaks? You mean Turkey steaks or other Steaks like Beef steaks?

Interesting but Precision Engineered - Muscle & Size Gainer have sugars of 51.7g :wooha:

From what I know is having too much Sugar does change into FAT....is that correct?

It all depends on your goals. If you're looking to lose weight that's 95% a matter of diet. Stay under 100g carbs per day and adjust your calories to a 500kcal deficit. Remember to increase the fat intake! Here's a great tool for calculating caloric needs: http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/

If you're looking to build muscles, you can only go so far at home. What you eventually will need is a barbell, a rack and some weights. That is seriously expensive to buy, so going to a gym is a good idea. I suggest doing it sooner rather than later. I waited, and now I wish I would have started earlier.

If you're looking for endurance of the aerobic kind, I suggest running. Only do this if you're actually interested in that kind of performance, it's useful for losing weight. And that's not just my opinion, it's what every scientific study on the matter has concluded.

I would be happy to supply links to sources for my claims and more information / programs for any of these activities.

Beef steaks... nice 12Oz rump :)

You can get similar offers for weight gainers on eBay. They all taste pretty much like milk-shake.

It is correct but not cos it's sugar. Energy in general. If you don't need the energy your body will convert it into fat. The science is a lot deeper than that but it's the general jist.

If you think you have enough calories in your diet then go with a Whey protein. They are low calorie, high protein. Protein is needed to make new muscle tissue but the right amount of energy (calories) each day is required to keep it.

I was as fit as i could be ten years ago. five years ago i fell off the exercise wagon. Next month I'm going to start back on (done with my studies). If there is anyone with plans of getting fit i'm in for a competition ;)

Swimming works great for me. I find I burn a hell of alot without using too much effort. Also you generally lose weight all round by swimming. Everything else you can do at home or outdoors.

+1 for swimming that is a real all body exercise, I used to go to a pool we had on site at work.

I used to play 5 aside until I hurt myself. So now I walk at lunchtime at work and also walk/run our dog in the morning and evening.

I miss playing football that used to get me really fit. I cry sometimes that I have retired so young effectively :)

The only issue I have with swimming is that I get really hungry afterwards and often annoyingly the fast food crap is right near and is too tempting.

My wife started swimming when I started the gym, She swims 4 times a week and one day at the gym. She lost a load of weight doing that, so I have to +1 you on swimming to lose weight, it really does work all over like you said. We actually only have one treat night a month, tonight is that night, bring on the fat greasy chinese :)

Monday to Friday I walk the boys to school and come back home I also have to take my one daughter later in the day to nursery. Now when i do this the hill i have climb to come back is enough for anyone and i do this 3 times a day 5 days a week. In fact everyone around here calls it killer hill.

This is my exercise and i have started to watch what I eat so with any luck I will start to drop some weight.

This picture does not do it justice.

The main points I will make are you do not need a personal trainer they are a waste of money you can do it yourself if you really want to, you can work out your entire body for years at home with a cheap set of dumbbells for the cost of one months gym membership and get the exact same results you would get if you were using an expensive gym. And finally the only way to add weight fast is to add fat to your body, building muscle is a very slow process unless you take steroids. I dont mean to offend anyone in particular on here but there has been some complete rubbish typed on this thread.

I would suggest reading this guys articles, he really knows what he is talking about and it's completely free: http://scoobysworkshop.com/

Oh god no you don't need a PT, but it is included in the family price of £60 for all of us to use everything, so of course I use it :) My 1 inch of muscle gained in the arms over a month was steroid free hehe.

Why the heck ya'll talk about stones? Don't you have modern scales? :P

Must be a pain to keep a bunch of stones around the house all the time

Sorry, when I was at school we learned by using the proper weights and measurements :p Anyway, 14 stone sounds better than 88Kg!

Hihi

Actually, yes they use lbs for weight ... I have to use my math to get my weight in Kilos.

I figure out the temperature in Celsius because it's all fahrenheit here ...

And I still prefer 24hr format to the silly am and pm .. what? Can only count to 12 or what's the deal? :D

You can keep your stones though

Everyone should know how to speak English, we should use mm, cm, meters, celsius, military time format and grams .. oh and liters please ...

milli
centi
kilo

24 hours in a day

I will throw a stone at your pint ... now let's see who gets to drink that beer :p

Just having some fun here .. now move one .. let's get back to gyms

Nope, don't go to the gym, have about 900 computers to take care of in a high school and I get 2 1/2 days a week to do that. There is the basement and 1st through 3rd floor .. I run the stairs unless I am carrying computers around .. getting enough exercise :D

Though would love to get back into martial arts but it's so time consuming .. I should really have a bigger house :)

My 2 year old can walk to the kindergarden. so you can guess it isn't much of an exercise to deliver him. So having an excuse for a longer trip is good.

Now I'll get a bicycle wagon, and maybe I can take a 30 min tour around the neighborhood instead of straight there.

We have a gym at work, I go 5 days a week in my lunch break, still failing to hold back middle age spread but that's prolly the booze at the weekend.... gotta live a little!

Thats kind of me too. Gym three times a week (half an hour at a time), with a 30 mile cycle mid week (when i can make it) and a 40 / 50 mile cycle at the weekend. Keeps me fit but the weekend bingeing on food and beer / wine is sustaining the same middle age spread lol

Hehe pictures never do! Photo's tend to flatten the image. I can tell from the initial bend on that hill that it would be pretty tough!
