Had your windows software ever crash?

Music making software like Cubase or Ableton crash my PC or Mac no problem :D
In Osx I got a bit less crashing though.

I can't remember the last time I saw Windows crash. Probably back in the Vista RC. Have 7 and 8.1 here on my desktop and laptop respectively.

I don't think I've ever seen W7 crash. I've seen a couple of crashes due to gfx card driver bugs and some due to faulty memory, but that's not a W7 crash.

Of course it is.

If you see the blue screen of death, then you know that Windows has crashed.

I too have had Windows 7 crash from a faulty memory chip, and I'd have preferred not to have lost any work, so I for one wouldn't mind Microsoft preventing this type of crash.

I'd suggest displaying a dialogue box recommending that the faulty chip should be replaced using what resources are still working.

Since the first version windows falls more often than a one-leg man in a football penalty contest.

LOL at the thread title!

Asking if your Windows setup has ever crashed is like asking if bears :censored: in the woods !!!!!

I'm sure every device or operating system I have ever used has crashed at some point, no OS or hardware is 100% fool proof.

Totally agree. I've seen every Android device hang and reboot itself at least once. I've seen iOS devices (both iPad and iPhone + iPods) freeze, requiring a certain key combination to be held down to switch them off then power them back on, I used to get Macs crashing all the time when video editing (very annoying), Windows when flaky software took the whole OS down (doesn't normally happen with current versions thankfully). PS3, 360, PSP, Wii.. etc have all hung and rebooted themselves at some point. Amiga's were great at crashing with the famous flashing red screen.. but none can beat Windows 3.1 and 95.. those were spectacular.

I've even had my car's computer screen crash and reboot itself. Very worrying when it happened. Driving along and suddenly the main central display when blank and the car's mileage reverted to KM, As soon as it had rebooted it changed back.

Anyone who reckons a computer based system is 100% robust, reliable and never crashes just hasn't witnessed it yet.

Modern OSes rarely crash. The protected memory features in recent versions of Windows, Linux and OSX mean that an unstable application can only wipe itself out, and not bring down the rest of the system.

The things that cause modern OSes to properly crash are either faulty hardware or misbehaving drivers. It's this driver issue that makes Macs appear more reliable than Windows. I've seen first-hand the difference in reliability since running XP on both a cheap K6-2 rig and a P3 with a name-brand motherboard. The P3 was vastly more reliable. It's amazing what a difference to Windows stability a decent hardware platform makes.

Very true. I never buy own brand or unknown brand hardware.
