Hundreds of thousands?

Yes, even more. I think they stopped counting a few years back, of course they count mal-ware, spy-ware, extortion ware, and viruses all together.
I couldn't keep up with it anymore and was so sick of fixing other peoples computers that were infected, I gave up. drank the kool-aid and went over to the dark side and bought a new iMac. Best decision of my life. I won't even beta test the new win 8, and if I need Windows, I can alway bootcamp it.

There hasn't been hundreds of thousands of windows exploits.

Your comment about beta testing windows is funny though... I am apple certified and even on the courses they freely admit things are broken on osx, but won't be fixed until the next version. Osx server is even worse.

is win doze and Apple , the new Commodore vs Sinclair battle?

having said that my zx spectrum never had a virus all the time i used it.

Maybe in Europe LOL in the America's Very few people heard of Sinclair. We had the Timex-Sinclair, but even the Ti-99/4a sold more.

The trouble with Windose is that Kids use it. i see it all the time. pop up blockers disabled, antivirus turned off. updates turned off all because kids are clicking yes to this that at the other...

young kids/teens have no idea -they look at 'adult' sites i think and girls seem to do it on adverts and silly games etc..

Vista & 7 should of been bullet proof by now or as good as but no, i still see lots of fake anti virus malware on peoples machines (Antivirus 2000) i think was the last one. i avoid pc repairs now. I'm sick of it all.

mac for me.

Lucky you, I've had viruses on my amiga, I remember one from the A500 days that used the floppy disk's bootloader and was called Saddam Virus or some such

ahh but you Americans had the Apple v Commodore battle . she didn't see Apple over here until the fruit coloured iMacs arrived years ago...

Viruses were more fun back then though. Now it's all about putting your machine in a bot net to make money

lol yeah i remember the boot blocker or boot block virus on the Amiga. All the magazine suddenly had Virus checked on the cover disks...

ahhh the old days

thats it then. we need to get online with Amiga's , ZX spectrums and C64 machines.

that'll teach em.

Java me know sunshine!

Really, I didn't know that. Apple 2's were the "rich kids" computers, but they were in all the schools after the PETS. The major battle here in Canada was the C64 Vs. the TRS 80 CoCo. RS was the only one who could compete with Jack Head to Head on price

if only Jack had staid...

oh well.

but back to the thread. This never ending attack is worrying to any computer user. not just Apple or MS. Android and iOS will be next. maybe Blackberry if they stay in business long enough.

The first mobile attack - tablets ...big news

aaah those days of "Amiga vs. Atari vs. PC vs. Spectrum vs. MSX vs. Beta vs. VHS", what pleasant memories.

lol , yes new hair . like it?

im not a fanboy or am interested in such nonsense really. everyone knows Apple is better.
:-D

Never have I read a more contradictory, ill-stated, misleading and big headed fanboi statement in all my years on the interwebz... It should be your sig :D

It appears to hit 10.6 and 10.7 users on the java section.
No worries! All PPC Mac users shouldn't worry a bit.. (running 10.5.x max)

was only a mater of time, as soon as a machine reaches a critical mass where the bot net can do something useful, in the sense of the criminal, it makes sense to target them machines after all how many times have you heard mac users say there are no viruses for that OS, crying out for an exploit to er be exploited if u ask me

look what happened with the Xbox360. what did MS say? its un crackable ?

 I remember them saying that now that you mention it. Maybe they meant indestrucable... oh no wait... self destructable?

.
well, I don't know how you would classify Viruses, mal-ware, Extortion ware, spyware etc, but last I looked, there were over 100 variants of the Win-anti-virus 20xx. I call them all exploits and the last I heard that Norton labs had over 5 million of them in their testing labs. There was a You tube video by them a few years back stating they had them all "Contained" and running in their labs.
Now yes, I know Norton is a Virus in itself, but my God the swap thats out there for Window's users, it just boogles the mind, I wonder how anyone can surf the net anymore.

i dont care who says what lol.
if some one saysd today i will make a virus and it will target "XXXX OS" then there is gonna be a virus.
Windows is the most obvious target because so many people use it.
then of course it will spread easier because so many people use the same os..

if we think about it as a Virus "as in biological" And have 3 main races of beings.
500Million are Wingogers.
200k are Macamimes
and
3k are linguixins.
And they all live on a HUGE island.
a virus infects 1 of each of them on day 1.
by day 2 40000. Wingogers are infected, only 400 Macamies are infected and the linguixins are still on 1 infected person.

This is purley due to the likley hood of the virus being able to spread due to contact with a host that can support it.
the one linguixin dies after a week and the virus is done.
a few hundred more macamies are infected but so far apart that they dont consider it a virus. just some sort of problem that means they feel slugish.
and the wingogers have been to the doctor and been vaxinated.

Now i dont know what you will take of that.
But id rather get vaxinated rather than be blissfully unaware that something is wrong.

Sure windows has the most targeted attacks because it is by far the most popular system. and if your going to spend time making a virus for something your not going to want to waste your time making it for a hand full of systems when you could infect a Huge ammount of people.
of course its still easier to get the mac's
but again they wouldnt notice the infection and then you would be wasting your time unless you were using it to log data or similar.
But then we arent talking about a virus anymore.

Hey, I am also convinced that the majority of viruses these days are nothing more than resume's (CV's) for these young hackers. If they can say "I got into x amount of boxes" after a few months of Jail or a fine, they are set for life at some big corporation doing "security"
